That’s worse than putting him in coverage all game… you have no football IQ..

Seeing this pisses me off that Perkins didn’t spy Milroe all game.

People use “freak athlete” way too much. While Perkins is good Devin White was the true “freak”. His size, strength, and speed are unmatched in my over 40 years of watching lsu football.
He was/is a monster and one of my favorite Tigers of all time. Only wish he would have stayed at LSU for 2019 season to win a championship but I understand why he left.

It was mentioned many many times that a lot of times, scheme had nothing to do with his success. You heard people mention time, and time again, that Devin White was such a smart linebacker, and was such a student of the game. That most of the time he knew where the play was going before the ball was even snapped, and then was so fast he would just make it happen. Although Percules might be as fast as Devin, you are right, sometimes they are just not putting him in the right place. Which bringing in this new defensive staff. We hope they can figure that out, then he can just go and wreck shite up.

Thank you.

We lost so much talent after 2019 that Tiger fans forgot what good defensive players look like.

Queen weighed 230 at the NFL combine

And we know in fact that he did gain weight. He didn’t play at 230 while with LSU. I recall him being closer to 220 than 230. In fact, he complained because he lost weight during the season. I would imagine he played around 222 or less.
How do you know that Perkins is not gaining 5-10 pounds this year? He is, and will, in fact, mature. He may be done growing height, wise, but not weight wise. Coming in at 2:20 is not necessarily where he’s at now. Queen was at about 225. Maybe just a tad over.

Patrick Queen was strong as frick. I don’t know what you’re talking about. Perk has been getting ragdolled the past two years.

So angles and leverage, and all of that doesn’t matter when playing that position? You give no credit to Dave Aranda. That’s the problem with dumbasses. This thread was started because of Devon White, and the freak that he was. But Dave Aranda had more to do with queen and white being first rounders than anyone else.

So here are the stats Devin White’s, 40 time was 4.42 height 6’1” weight 255 lbs. Harold Perkin’s 40 yard time was 4.49 his height 6’1” same as Devin but 35 pounds lighter at at 220 lbs. Devin was just a little bit faster and weighed 35 pounds more. And I think what everyone else is saying is right, Devin was put in much better positions by Aranda to make plays, and his teammates around him were a lot better. = “ BUTKUS”

Perkins is an elite pass rusher but not great in coverage

What??? Even though hes a LB, he was probably our best player in coverage this year.

Honestly, with his size and speed he should probably be an “in the box” safety who could drop into coverage or blitz when needed.

The ultimate tweener. Creativity needed to max him out. Doesn’t have an ideal traditional position

It's easy to look this up, you know?

Devin White was 237lbs at his workout.

Being a freak doesnt mean shite, as Devin White has been benched in Tampa Bay for a 5th Rd pick that runs a 4.76

Side Thought: I’d like to see Perkins work w NUSS & the receivers over summer. Maybe go from good in coverage to very good in coverage.

Well sorry to say but size does matter for that position. Devin White was a freak at 245 lbs and the strength to take on blockers every play. Perkins needs to be free to get after the QB. He’s going to have his own special position in this defense and I think Baker is going to spend a lot of time with him this spring and fall. Whit Weeks and Greg Penn III are MLB guys.

House wasted Perks talent last year. Good coaches put special players where they can excel. Perk could be a Honey Badger type impact player but he was wasted last year.

Hate to ruin your little preconceived and unresearched narrative but Perkins’s 2022 and 2023 stats were practically identical.

Our defense was so bad schematically last yea he was playing coverage every snap so he got beat alot.

Part of this was other team’s schemes or audibles to make him have to cover. Knowing that’s not what he does best. Or they run at him knowing he’s undersized LB.

He is as fast and has more bend. Pat Queen had 9 tackles in the first half against Bama in 2018. He wasn’t bigger, stronger or faster than Perkins. It is scheme and Aranda was a master at it.

We also had Philips inside as our thumper

Don't be silly

Queen and Debo Jones are much better comps as to what Perkins may be able do as a linebacker. He's only about 10lbs lighter than their LSU playing weight. Hopefully Baker will be able to work his magic and turn him into a workable inside lb.

Aranda also schemed a role for Jacoby Stevens, who is closer to Perkins in body type and athleticism than any of the LBs mentioned. In an Aranda defense, Perkins would have more than likely played this same Box Safety role than moving inside. Perkins has more burst and better pass rush instincts than Stevens showed, so he would likely excel here.
