Pat Queen had 9 tackles in the first half against Bama in 2018. He wasn’t bigger, stronger or faster than Perkins. It is scheme and Aranda was a master at it.
Queen weighed 230 at the NFL combine

He was bigger

And playing strong safety and making tackles in the middle is so much different than being a middle linebacker expected to engage near the LOS

Perkins was like the highest or one of the highest rated coverage LBs in the country last year. He's great in coverage, but he's not a CB. Our defense was so bad schematically last yea he was playing coverage every snap so he got beat alot. It's recency bias. You see him get beat so many times you think he's bad.

Perk is the perfect OLB in the Aranda system would have been insane for us in those years.

No defensive player in LSU history has the ball anticipation and spacial awareness skills like Tyrann Mathieu. The angles and leverage he used on the field were elite.

Correct. And do you realize how terrible he would have been at middle linebacker?

People act like Perkins didn’t play at MLB against FSU. And as many of you remember, they only beat us because they threw jump balls against our horribly coached 5’9 corners.

Perkins is a middle linebacker. No one plays 4-3 anymore, and he’s certainly not a fricking slot corner

Patrick Queen was strong as frick. I don’t know what you’re talking about. Perk has been getting ragdolled the past two years.

Truly don’t understand this. There’s nothing freaky about Perkins’ athleticism. 210 at 6’1 and runs a 4.5 most likely. That’s pretty standard for an NFL safety.

This. I'd like to see Perkins move back to ILB. It just makes sense for him. He might have to put on another 5-10 lbs but he's not that far off. I think competent coaches will do wonders for him.

I doubt he is less than 210 and I doubt he is as slow as 4.5

If I remember correctly one of our first freaks was Patrick Johnson and he came in as a freshman I thought he was 6’1” 203lbs ran a 4.3

And white came in as a freshman at 6’ 256lb ran a 4.4

Lsu has had some dudes in all shapes and I think perk is one of them dudes just need to get some other athletes around him and put him in some win situations he will make the play when we need him to if he doesn’t have to make every single play if that makes sense

You don't catch track stars from behind with 4.5 speed. Perk probably runs between a 4.38-4.42 40yd dash.

House wasted Perks talent last year. Good coaches put special players where they can excel. Perk could be a Honey Badger type impact player but he was wasted last year.

Nonsense. Perkins is currently in the role that best suits his size and athleticism. He’s an ideal SAM or Box Safety. He proved to be FAR better in coverage than most expected and graded out as one of the best coverage LBs in the SEC.

The problem isn’t the position. It’s that House wasn’t creative enough to use Perkins effectively in that position. Pairing him with an athletic MLB in Weeks will allow the new staff to move Perkins all over the field and blitz from multiple locations. Baker is far more creative and aggressive than House, so I have full confidence he will use Perkins in a way that has a much bigger impact next season.

4.5 is not slow by any means. He’s gained weight and seems to be slower than before. I believe he was at 200lb in HS. He’s 210-220 depending on the time of the year. I think he started the season at 210 and never looked as explosive as he was his freshman season.

Yes. And was as strong as a bull. Devin White is truly a “freak athlete”

Watch Dee Winters highlights from TCU and see how similar he plays to Perkins:

Winters ran a 4.49 at the combine

How? It shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone. He frequently played safety and even corner in high school. He was excellent at it.

Love that attacking defense
Did you notice how the DTs press to the outside on their rush on the OL to create a rush lane on obviously planned blitz by White?
That is something that LSU never did one time this past year. I watched for it.
Therefore Perkins never had the opportunities that White was given.
I surely hope our new d coaches are as creative to put Perkins in position to utilize his speed and instincts. It was criminal how House used Perkins this past year.

Perkins was perfectly used last year. People just hate it because the whole defense sucked. Perkins in a vacuum was awesome.

-20th Graded LB nationally in Coverage.

-He played 252 slot CB snaps in coverage. That is insane for an LB lol.

He had

- 3 forced fumbles
- 6 sacks
- 1 INT

That is a great body of work i hope they continue to build on.

The problem LSU has figuring out what to do with Perkins reminds me of Marcel Brooks.

Perkins is a better version of Marcel Brooks.
