A great decision, but don’t it will happen before the ‘25 season.

Just saw ESPN (Heather Dinich) is reporting that it will not happen this season or the next, but could start in 2023 if approved. Who knows at this point though. A lot will happen over the next couple of months.

Comical nothing but another money grab. Football is not like basketball or baseball where some team can suddenly get hot and roll into the championship.

Pretty much what Tampa Bay did in 2020 and won the Super Bowl. Whatever format I would not be in favor of teams getting 1st round byes, too much variation in season long SOS.

You almost want to be at 1 loss and #2 in the west. Avoid the conference championship, still make the playoffs, and get a first round game at home.

This is exactly why this idea sucks.

I do think it will increase nationwide interest with a broader pool.

That being said, what happens to the New Year's Six?

Does the Rose Bowl fall on it's sword to maintain the January 1 slot while the other 5 bowls rotate?

In a regional environment where conference imbalances are so obvious, NO ONE should get a bye.

Make it 8 teams.

The regular SEC season is going to stop mattering for some teams. Bama, LSU, UGA, and Florida are going to be in this thing every single year. Auburn and Aggie will be in often.

What will Atlanta even matter? The SEC champ and runner up will just rematch every year in the playoff.

There is no question that this benefits LSU. I still don't want it because it will cheapen the regular season.

8 teams is much more reasonable.

You’d have to figure out a way not to penalize the division champs that are playing and losing conference championship games. Like WTF sense does it make to give a #2 division runner up a bye week after a long regular season so they can rest before round 1 of the playoffs?

They could do something like guarantee home field in the 1st round of the playoffs if you win your division, and you are higher ranked than a non-conference champ at the end of the regular season.

And fricking up the best regular season in sports won't be?

It should spread around recruiting talent a little more. Since players are expecting immediate playing time, now they would be opting to ride the bench at a Alabama/OSU/Clemson instead of go to any of 12-15 teams that will get into the playoffs every year. Why sit your whole freshman year when you can go and play in the playoffs as a freshman.

I think 12 is too much, and I hate that anyone gets a bye; however, the regular season is still going to matter. If we see a move towards more conference games and fewer cupcake wins, losing 3 SEC games is going to likely put you on the bubble or out, and 3 loss SEC teams are generally better than 2 loss anywhere else teams.

The NFL regular season is still hugely important even though over 1/3 of teams make the playoffs. Plus, the more regular season games you win, the better your seed.

8 is the sweet spot. Not sure why they'd jump straight to 12.

Interesting take that recruits might choose non-SEC because they have a better chance of making playoffs elsewhere. There is some validity to that take.

Because todays1 vs 4 blowout is so entertaining we need a 1 vs 12. Can’t wait.

Let's be honest, this is the only way we are ever getting into the playoffs as long as Saban is still at Bama.

And the outcome I predicted 20 years ago when people first started clamoring for a playoff is coming to full fruition.

Nothing will ever be enough. Someone will always be unhappy, and they'll keep adding on to give more crappy teams a shot that they don't deserve. This isn't basketball or baseball. You can't just keep piling on more games... But they will, anyway. And the regular season becomes more and more anticlimactic.

We just won the national championship less than two years ago. Why would you say that? I don't want to be the beneficiary of a watered down format. I like the reward of accomplishing something that is hard.

Nah, some how, some way the Gumps will ge to play Tennessee because of tradition. That or a bridge schedule will somehow saddle them Kentucky or Vandy. Playoffs, gump style.

They need to do something 4 is not cutting it because it is the same teams. With expandable teams more teams now will have a chance to compete for a championship at the end. It will be blow outs for first several years i am sure. But eventually schools that now have a chance to compete in the playoff each year will slowly start attracting better players that other wise would automatically go to a LSU Bama or OSU that sit out first few years before they get on the field to play will start looking at other schools. I think it will allow for a little more parity down the road in CFB. But like i have said it needs to get to the point where it is power 5 vs power 5 only regular season. Along with expanding the playoff and have these playoff games at these college campuses.
