The traditional recruiting he did no longer exists. In basketball, you not only have the agents for NIL, but AAU and it’s politics and scumbag coaches and then the shoe and apparel companies and their NIL deals with HS players that often funnel them to programs that rep the same brands.

You think Ben Simmons, Antonio Blakeney, Jordan Mickey and Jarrell Martin came here for free?

LOL, what a joke this is becoming

From what I’ve read Jones is a good recruiter, has great connections in the state, and maybe most importantly is a good fundraiser.

We heard the same thing about Schoyer in regards to fundraising so it’s clear that is a huge focus for Wade as he starts his second stint here.

I also think there’s some very good talent in the state the next few seasons so having a guy like Jones who has connections to the high school programs in the state certainly does not hurt

One thing is for sure. If this is true then any idea that the Dale Brown and especially Collis Temple influence is gone is sadly mistaken

assistant who is a 3rd coach we fired

And we actually fired him twice before. Once as an assistant and once as head coach.

Yea this is a smart hire.

Jones has relationships at the aau level that will answer a call.

Jones always placates the temple and brown group which taps into more money.

It’s not like he is going to coach the team and it’s not like Will Wade is a ceo.

Also a sign we have him a Kim mulkey staff type deal.

He probably only coaches a few more years anyways

Meanwhile McFlop has all but vanished from the face of the earth since his dismissal. What happened -- just crickets

Until Brown and Temple are dead they are at least going to have a voice.

If throwing their boy in some support position is what it takes for them to be willing to help raise money and use what outside influences they have then it is what it is.

I’d be a lot more worried if Wade wasn’t so hands on.

When you have a .240 career winning % vs. SEC opponents you don't get the benefit of the doubt. In fact, had McMahon hired Jones most would have been calling for Jones to coach the team. THAT'S how bad McMahon was

As long as he isn’t responsible for anything that happens on the court either during the game or during practice I’m fine with this hire.

Wellll Jones can actually recruit as well as pull in donors even if he can’t coach a lick.
McMahon can’t do either. He doesn’t recruit, he doesn’t like to run elbows with boosters or drum up support with fans, he doesn’t motivate him players, and his coaching is atrocious and simple.
I still don’t understand how he made it this far as a coach

At first people would melt but in reality it might have been a brilliant hire for McMahon. Bring in someone with local ties, solid at fundraising, and some personality.

The only LSU coach that brought in NBA talent at a rate comparable to Wade was Johnny Jones.

I understand the logic. And 10 yrs ago, maybe. He's old and was a failure at hc.
ANY good recruiter for a major program can see any kid or coach in the state. Its social media and other forms now. Its not banging on the hs door begging to be let in.

Its this regurgitation of old names that is worrisome. Jones went elsewhere when fired. Did Louisiana top talent flood N Texas St?(i think thats where he went)

This is a new era and kids are way different of how it worked 10+ yrs ago. Less Miles wouldnt be effective these days, as solid as he was into talking momma into letting her boy come to him. Its just different, and jj is no different.

I dont think all of this is a complete disaster...but LSU had a chance to go higher, and it didnt really.

Go after the top 10 guys in America and offer the $ given to wade. No doubt 8 agents would call u back.

Recruiting is totally different now. Johnny jones is 65. I wonder how many assistants Wade has had over 50, much less 69. Just seems like someone forced this

Agreed

I mean Butch Pierre was a better recruiter....guess hes interviewing also, lol

I kid. Its just frustrating that LSU had all the momentum, new leaders, governor on board, fans excited....and a bunch of has been grey hairs reach out to an old coach and try to rehash a situation that doesnt exist anymore, with a coach with a flawed character.

I pray im wrong, but I see nothing exciting about these moves

I typically don't stress about basketball staffing hires as much as football. If this is wade's call, I'm good with it.

He has enough backing to where I don't think is simply the dale brown mafia exerting influence and forcing it on him
