Even the trio at Rice or Cole/Bauer, or Strasburg?

That's a big time compliment.

Coming from someone who coached Louis Colenan, Gausman, Nola, Lange, et al.

At the college level I think that is a fact. Every other arm at Skene’s talent level went pro out of high school.

That's a huge compliment. I think he's the best pitcher I've ever seen in college. If he finishes strong I don't think anyone can make an argument.

If we can make the national title series he has a real shot at Ben's K record.

It's even bigger than that. He said in his lifetime of WATCHING baseball, so that means to me that he's the best he's ever seen.

He will break Ben’s record in his first start in Omaha.

Nope. That discounts Clemens, Carlton, Ryan, Johnson, all the pitchers today. I mean context man. At LSU? Until recently he couldn’t locate a change or keep his breaking ball in the zone long enough. Look at the difference the last month in pitch count for FB versus other pitches.

Keith Law on Skenes…

quote:

Skenes has gone from sitting 92-95 mph with an above-average slider to becoming the hardest-throwing starting pitching prospect I’ve ever seen,

“Ever” is a pretty strong statement

quote:

There is nobody close to Skenes among pitchers in this class, and the fact that he throws strikes with this kind of stuff, even if you only give him credit for being 96-99 mph, would make him 1-1 in most years. Stephen Strasburg and Gerrit Cole would top out at 100 mph, with better breaking stuff than Skenes, and they went 1-1. Mark Appel had less stuff and he went first overall, as well. I think it’s fair to project a No. 1 starter ceiling for Skenes with some projection to the changeup and the obvious hope that he stays healthy, which some guys have with this kind of stuff (Cole and Justin Verlander come to mind as comparable pitchers).
