If you're kicking an onside kick up 56-0 against an undermanned team, you're a small-dick douche.

A high school football coach in Oregon was fired shortly after a 63-0 win in a game that was called at halftime.
Marist Catholic High School in Eugene, Ore., fired head coach Zach Loboy after the Spartans not only ran up the score against a Cottage Grove High School team that had only 16 players available, but also attempted two onside kicks, including one with just under two minutes left to play in the first half when the score was 56-0, per USA Today. Despite failing to recover the second onside kick, Marist scored again with less than 30 seconds left after intercepting a pass.
Marist athletic director Rick Gardner, Cottage Grove athletic director Garrett Bridgens and Lane County Football Association commissioner Mike Whitty decided not to play the second half.
Loboy’s dismissal was announced in an email sent to parents after the game, and school principal Bob Fraley wrote that the decision “was necessary to reflect our school’s mission and values,” according to KVAL.
“It wasn’t a forfeit; it wasn’t that our coaches and players did not want to continue,” Bridgens told the Register-Guard. “We were working in the best interest of our kids, our fans — the entire situation — to do what was best for everyone. This was the ADs and the commissioner of officials working together to make that decision.”
Gardner told the outlet that Loboy’s conduct in the win “is really not reflective of the school’s mission and how we want to treat our opponents.
“Our athletic program tries to adhere to the mission and the values of Marist Catholic High School,” he said. “In this particular case, we definitely fell short.”

Hes almost assuredly a dweeb but getting fired for that, unless there were previous instances/warnings, seems harsh.

63-0 at half, not a full game

sounds like the game shouldnt even have been played...why should the oregon team just waste their time out there. if you cant even recover an onside kick then not much sympathy. should have been a chance for you to maybe score on a short field

If he were just running his offense and keeping the ball on the ground for the most part and they scored, no issue. But when you attempt an onside kick up 56-0 two minutes before halftime, that's a complete lack of sportsmanship and ultimately that's what high school athletics should be about.
An overreaction? Sure. But I understand it.

Devils advocate, what better time to practice onside kicks in live game action than when they won't cause you to lose
That guy is an a-hole

Definitely an a-hole for the onside kicks.
Should he have been fired? Seems a bit harsh unless there were prior incidents

Good luck creating a hands team when you only have 16 players to choose from and at least 5 of them are offensive linemen.

I'm not to say. It's a Christian School, their standards of conduct may be really strict. I know nothing about the school.
I also have no idea what the game looked like. Is he supposed to tell his kids to drop interceptions because they are winning too bad?
I lost an 8th grade game 60 something-7 or maybe even 0 (full game though) and my coach wasnt pissed at the other coach, he was pissed at us. RIP Dusty "The American Dream" Rhodes

Definitely should have gotten a talking to. I can only assume he had been told to not act like a douche? If so, then sure a firing is needed.
Otherwise, no.

Oh please. People would have called that coach a pathetic dickhead for doing that even in the 70s and 80s.
Kicking onside kicks when you're up 56-0 and the opponent has only 16 players? GTFO pulling that shite in a high school game.

Anyway, just a bizarre thing to do. He must he had a grudge with the other team or something.
