How was that heartbreaking??? We were completely OWNED

Yes we were, but it was heartbreaking in that we were guaranteed to be the national champion had we won. No other game has that factor.

The fact that we appeared to be completely out coached was heartbreaking - from then on we knew Les Miles was not up to the task of beating Saban.

Auburn 2006

Refs fricked us good. Cost us a shot at a title. That team was rolling at the end of the season.

2012 Bama by far for me.
I was there.
Everything set up perfect for the sweetest revenge. Crowd was the best I ever been apart of as well.
But the ending was devastating.

2009 Ole Miss and the spike with no time left. The epitome of Les’ clock management incompetence

It was definitely a disappointing end to what was, to that point, maybe the best season in LSU football history. But even without the benefit of hindsight, you could see the result coming from a mile away. Many won't admit it, but that is why so many LSU fans were furious Alabama backdoored their way into the game.

LSU's offense was terrible after the 9-6 game. They were bad vs. Western Kentucky the following week. Of course, most chalked that up to a hangover from the physical Alabama game. They were bad against Arkansas until Matheiu lit a spark. They were embarrassingly bad in the first half vs. Georgia. Thank God Georgia blew some early opportunities to take a big lead and Mathieu did what Mathieu did all season.

It was VERY clear early on in the championship game Les was content to run out the exact same game plan that resulted in very tight win the 1st time, while Saban was willing to change his approach to better attack the LSU defense.

Gut wrenching. Cost a National Championship because Ole Miss would have not played LSU

I’ll add in 11/1/1969 in Jackson to Ole Miss. Another title shot lost. Heartbreaking. Then to get snubbed by the Sugar Bowl and Cotton Bowl was TERRIBLE

The only answer -

We lost a National Championship Game to Alabama - January 2012

This one game could have changed the trajectory of our program.

That one is easy.

1a.) The 1979 17-12 loss to Southern California in Tiger Stadium.
1b.) The 2012 loss to Alabama in Tiger Stadium.
1c.) The 1982 31-28 loss to Tulane in TS. (Last game as a GBFTL drummer)

1979 USC. That still stings.

I was working the backroom (kitchen cleaning) at Wendys on Causeway in Metairie and listening to the radio. The announcers had to almost yell to be heard because the crowd was so loud. And it never got quiet. Then they ripped us off with that facemask on Benji Thibodeaux!

How does getting owned not make it heartbreaking?

It was absolutely heartbreaking to go from in the GOAT conversation to getting dominated on the biggest stage.
