This one for me as well. I still blame myself though. My wife had fallen asleep and with just a couple minutes left in the game, I went upstairs, woke her up, told her to come downstairs, and that we finally were going to take one back from Alabama. We’ll…

1/9/2012 is the only real answer.

I almost initially said this but a couple things to consider:

1. We beat Alabama on the road during the regular season. If they were "so good," that win should've counted more than it did. IMO

2. To answer the question, I'd take either triple OT loss from the same year to either Kentucky or Arkansas. We win either one of those, that Bama mulligan doesn't happen. Again, if there's any doubt, read #1 again.

Just my worthless two cents.

I still remember that weak arse personal foul they called on Vadal when we had the ball down on their goal line late in the game. It was bullshite and it hurt our chances of scoring a touchdown. If we punch it in I think we win that game and keep our national title hopes alive. That loss was painful.

Agreed. I still say that first down pitch "BACKWARD" that lost SIX YARDS was the play that cost us that game. OBJ had just caught a sweet first down sideline pass to about the bama 28.

I know 'if', but GD, you got 'em on the ropes, throw a safe pass to the TE or a slant on first down. Get a second and 6 or second and 5, THEN run the ball and run clock!

That was the most improbable loss because, up to that point - bama had ZERO first downs and FIVE yards total offense the ENTIRE SECOND HALF.

I remember sitting in the SW corner going 'WTF just happened?' The bama fans sitting near us went from hanging their heads to screeching Rammer Jammer. It was nauseating....

Those were 2007, not 2011 - the season of the infamous loss to Bama in the NC.

Anyway, the 3 OT losses in 2007 are overstated. LSU didn't trail at the end of regulation, so why do the final outcomes matter

That game was the beginning of the end of McClendon's regime.

I remember a postgame interview with Charlie Mac that night; he attempted to justify the embarrassing loss to the underdog Wave by saying, "we've just been playing them too much on the road." (due to a scheduling glitch, LSU also played at Tulane in '72, a 9-3 Tiger win). Charlie Mac's comment seemed to herald his future stay at LSU, as the Tigers proceeded to lose 12 more straight road games; the streak ended in 1977, following an equally shocking 24-21 upset loss at Indiana.
