Offensive Coaches in the box were pissed when Kiffin made the call to punt.

ESPN camera was on them and one of them even slammed his pen down. They all looked shocked.

Listening to Hanny this morning and he was furious that the guy we hired for that situation didn’t execute

Don’t think you’ll have to worry about that going forward. Kiffin def talked himself out of it. He learned not to trust the baker prevent special.

As long as Sam Leavitt is the qb I will never be mad at that decision

I’ll say it again: Lane is going to coach and call games more aggressively on offense going forward now that he understands what baker can and can’t do. I wish it didn’t come to this but he needs to treat this team like his conventional Ole Miss rosters

It’s the right decision based off our the defenses we’ve had for all but one half this year. Not sure what happened to our d

I have been around football for an eternity. When you have a 3 point lead with 2 minutes left you do not give the other team the ball in FG range. Period.
Only exception if their offense is unstoppable.
We played a prevent defense against an inaccurate passer. That is on Baker.

And when he doesn’t get it, the whole world, including you, will rain down shite on him for eternity.
You punt the ball there. Thats why you have a defense. But time and time Blake Baker has proven he can’t stop a parked car.

100%. Lane himself said multiple times one of the reasons he came to LSU was because he wanted to be able to rely on his defense.
I honestly think it was more faith in baker than lack of faith in the offense. This isn’t Kelly against Ole Miss in 2023 in a 50 point shootout where we hadn’t stopped ole Miss all game. It’s fricking Kentucky with a methodical run based offense. They’ve scored three points all half. And you’re going to pin them back needing 60-70 yards in 90 seconds.
Guarantee he does not trust Baker again

Listen I was in between at the time but I really don’t think the fans would go crazy.
1:30 is an ETERNITY in college football.
Any fan understands that and the risk to benefit was AT LEAST neutral. It’s easy to defend the punt choice though based on past practices
They ended up having about 50 seconds or so with the ball on our 40 anyways

Easy to criticise now. But in real time it wasn’t a terrible decision.

Has nothing to do with QB on if it is the correct call or not.

The defense up to that point had given up 17 points and had really clamped down in the 2nd half with that being said knowing Baker and how he plays soft zone prevent defense like he has in the past, you had to go for it. It sucks that Kiffin forgot about how bad Baker is late in games but he’s well aware of it now.

Also, we were not running the ball well and couldn’t get any push on the inside. If we had been running for 4pc we probably go for it. It was the right call based off of how things were going. This is going to be the worst offense we have during Kiffin’s tenure so you’d hope the one side of the ball we have continuity on and upgraded at all positions would be able to stop them with no timeouts

As pissed as I am that the defense folded yet again with the game on the line, I'm equally bothered by the fact that we needed two trick plays to score TDs against Kentucky. Where is the consistency on offense that we thought we'd be getting? This is the second time that we've come out looking unprepared on the road. That doesn't bode well for trips to Auburn and Tennessee in a few weeks.

He is a good qb to have on 4 and 1 because he can run.

I just don't agree. The ball was not in FG range. UK would have still needed at least a first down to get into range with a shook kicker. A single yard wins the game. The odds of converting 4th and 1 is over 75% according the NCAA stats. That to me is clearly the best option while holding a three point lead. I say with a four point or greater lead, you punt and force them to go 90 yards to beat you. Heck, I would even say with a 1 or 2 point lead you punt. With a three point lead, that is the one spot I say going for is best.

Goods
Hopefully they’re reminding him that they didn’t come here to punt in those situations.
