You punt the ball there. Thats why you have a defense. But time and time Blake Baker has proven he can’t stop a parked car.

Your last sentence proves why we should have went for it. 1 damn yard to end the game. If you don't get it, Kentucky still needs a TD to win it or a FG to tie with a kicker that just shanked 2 FGs. All that offensive creativity and we can't scheme up a play to get 1 yard against a team playing backup LBs?

You should reread this statement. Think about it really hard, and then reassess.

I’ll say it again: Lane is going to coach and call games more aggressively on offense going forward now that he understands what baker can and can’t do. I wish it didn’t come to this but he needs to treat this team like his conventional Ole Miss rosters

100%

It was 4th down at LSU's own 43. UK was out of timeouts. Yes, a first down there effectively ends the game. But failing to get it means you give UK the ball in your own territory almost already in FG range with ~1:30 to score a TD to beat you. On the flip side, a punt pins them back and forces them to drive at least 60 or so yards w/o a timeout to at least set up a FG by a kicker who had just missed to FGs..the last being a chip shot. UK had scored 3 points in the 2nd half to that point and LSU's defense had just forced a FG after being put in an awful situation following the Leavitt fumble. With all of that I could understand trusting the defense to get a final stop. Particularly against the worst 3rd down offense in the country.

Unfortunately, just like vs. Ole Miss, when LSU's defense needed one final stop Baker could not deliver. (I say one final stop vs. OM because LSU's offense was rolling and a stop after the game tying FG puts LSU in a spot on offense where a FG likely wins the game)

Lane now knows that if LSU's defense needs a big 4th quarter stop Baker is not going to be able to deliver it. So Lane will change the way he approaches situation now with that understanding in mind.

That's the thing. You could maybe chalk up the failure to get a big stop vs. Ole Miss to Ole Miss just have a good QB who has delivered in the clutch before. But now it is undisputable. LSU cannot rely on Baker's defense to get a big 4Q stop so the approach on offense has to change to compensate for it.

I have been around football for an eternity. When you have a 3 point lead with 2 minutes left you do not give the other team the ball in FG range. Period.

You’re old. You need 1/2 yard to win the game. Your defense hasn’t been dependable. If not for their kicker shitting himself twice, you wouldn’t have the lead. Sure, their kicker can always shite himself a third time in a row, but why bet on it.

You go for the win there. Once we didn’t, the game was over.

Guarantee he does not trust Baker again

You can't trust Baker in those situations, but also, our players didn't do shite either. CBs? Nowhere to be found...trying to strip the ball and allowing the WR to gain another 5 yards closer to the goal line instead of actually tackling him. Pass rush - nope. And Keys went for an interception and totally missed it causing a huge conversion. It was bad all around.

Listening to Hanny this morning and he was furious that the guy we hired for that situation didn’t execute

And if you listen to LK in postgame he regretted it.

My point here is if the role was reversed Stein would have 100% gone for it. So now there is a coach out there who is more aggressive than LK…

Hes supposed to an offensive genius. He can't come up with a play to gain one yard? To win the game. Come on.

We have a RB at QB, perfect call for him there.

The fact he trusted Blake Baker’s defense to get a stop, is very concerning. I do think going forward that will change, but at the end of the day, it should’ve never happened last night.

Yep I want to say we went a stretch in the 2nd half throwing 11 straight times. Kiffin had no confidence in the run blocking

75% but that’s the entire sample size and context matters with those decisions. We were stopping them in the second half. I really believe if we come out aggresive on defense they don’t get a chance to kick it again

Yep..the odds are highly in your favor to convert there..Hell, a quarterback sneek with proper blocking would have even done it. One of the worst coaching mistakes to give away a game I've ever seen.
