The SEC for passing post hoc rules specifically targeting a class of players to keep them from entering the college football marketplace despite a court order enjoining the NCAA from enforcing its eligibility rules prohibiting them from playing college football this year. Sounds a lot like collusion and antitrust behavior. The damages would be what they could have earned in NIL payments by playing for LSU. Perhaps even treble damages.
An injunction against the NFL for prohibiting teams from being able to sign them as free agents this season. We don't know all of the facts, but on the surface it doesn't look like the CBA expressly prohibits an NFL team from signing these guys this year.

If they were good enough, they would have been picked up. They apparently need more playing experience. The extra year of practice and game situations would help their draft stock, which could be worth millions. I hope the court awards them accordingly for the ineptitude of the NCAA and the idiot Sankey.

The more I think about this the more I'm beginning to believe that this is about the NFL's practice squad system.
75% to 80% of NFL practice squads are made up of players with zero to two years of experience.
Athletes are eligible for the NFL after three years removed from high school.
NCAA says athletes have five years to play five.
NFL practice squad pay is about $250,000 for the year if a player can stay on the PS for the entire year.
The other important piece of information is that those players can have their contracts terminated at any moment. It's week by week.
I honestly believe that NFL clubs do not want to compete with college.
The NFL cannot rely on the NCAA. College football is a mess right now and this is the first NFL off season in which NFL clubs have had to deal with their young, prospective practice squad players returning to the college game. They don't like it.
Imagine spending the off season evaluating/developing some young players only to have them to bail on you for a better contract right before the season starts, especially since they have some remaining eligibility.
I understand what the NFL is doing but I don't know if I agree with it.
They could always guarantee practice squad contracts or pay the practice squad players more money so that they don't return to college.
Just my opinion.

That is bazar. I would love to know the reason for this also. That would make going back to college the only straw for these players to grasp for.

This is how I understand it as well, which is why I changed my mind in all of this.
Once a player fails to make an NFL roster why does the NFL care how that player makes his living? As long as it's not something illegal or harms the NFL, then I would think the league doesn't care.
Or they do care in this case b/c it's about their practice squad system and young, prospective practice squad players returning to college hurts the NFL.
At least that's my take on this issue.
