This is common in college coaching picks that turn out to be failures. Remember when aTm got Jimbo - because of Jameis Winston? aTM again with Kevin Sumlin because of Case Keenum then extended because of Johnny Football? When coach O looked like a genius because of Joey B? Chasing the shiny toy built on one player is so common that is is cliche in coaching hires.

Money doesn't buy touchdowns. If it did, why not pay him (or anyone) 100M? We will have ended up paying BK 100M. Where are our NC rings? The argument "because we are paying him, he should be the best QB in history" is intellectually dishonest. Other teams are paying their players a lot of money too. I have a feeling that the team with the highest payroll will not win the NC this year.

Most quarterbacks aren't. As much as we like to throw shade on the QB of our opponents, it is hard to not acknowledge that guy is very good.
