Now I hear people worried that Nuss is not mobile at all and there are questions.
he’s definitely mobile, but he isn’t Daniels. i wouldn’t say he is a huge threat in the running game. but he isn’t Mett either.

It's very easy to pat yourself on the back when one can view the situation through the prism of hindsight. However, the reality is Daniels's performance last season was uneven and nowhere close to what he has done this year. Thus, it wasn't unreasonable to question if he was the best option.
Obviously he has exceeded every reasonable (hell, even unreasonable) expectation this season. Thus, it's not unreasonable to have concerns that Nussmeier will be able replicate the performance Daniels has had this season. But that would be the case for ANY QB that follows Daniels.
In sum, based upon the known information at the time, one could question if Nussmeier might be a better option. Likewise, based upon the known at this time, one can question if Nussmeier can reach Daniels' 2023 level. Neither are unreasonable discussions. It's just that the information available today is not the same information that was available a year ago.

He's never shown me anything special. He's also a turnover machine.

Ready to roll with Nuss next year but also not against the staff bringing in someone from the portal given LSU success with transfer QB’s. Really hope Lacy or Hilton takes that next step to being his #1 WR if BTJ does go pro which is very likely.

NUSS defenders??
Hmmmm
Tell us more
I mean… have we seen enough of this dude to defend or criticize?
I haven’t.
Just me though

It’s more many people picking who their favorite player is and bitching when that player isn’t starting. Regardless of how good the player actually is.
Fans who do nothing but watch games and complain know more than the coaches who see how the players prepare and practice.

No one is. JD5 is a unicorn.

His lack of mobility really doesn't bother me
Is really not mobile. Not sure we’ve seen enough to say.
He’s no JD but he doesn’t look like Mettengerger in the pocket either.

Nuss defenders
I don't know who you mean by that .... but, I'll explain what I mean by the things I'VE said about this.
1. I think Nuss COULD BE a truly great QB. He should start next year.
2. I THINK that CBK really wants a QB that can run. He likes Nuss, prolly feels really comfortable having a QB as good as Nuss as a backup... but he really wants a dual-threat/running QB to start.
3. If CBK finds a promising running QB, I THINK he'll try to start him. If not, he'll go with Nuss.
I don't think anybody's opinion of Nuss as a QB has changed. Mine hasn't. I'm not worried about Nuss' running ability, or lack thereof. What I'm worried about is CBK's opinion of it.
I worry that he'll prioritize running ability over throwing ability, sit Nuss, and spend a year and a half trying to teach a Wide Out how to throw during gametime.
Surely, you would agree that CBK has shown some inclination to do that at LSU?

JD didn’t go from the most sacked QB in program history to taking few sacks because he became faster. He’s eliminated the sacks because the ball comes out on time.
That’s partly true. But last year he had 2 true freshmen at the tackle spots. They are now seasoned vets. That has cut down on sacks as well

Yes the Oline has improved but last years Oline ranked top 10 in the country by every metric including time allowed so those sacks were mostly on the QB.

If he is able to e throw the ball at an elite level and we are able to run the ball Nuss will get his share of converting first downs with his legs and that is the key to a mobile qb. What Daniels is different in that it can be much more then moving the chains.

He’s never had extended playing time either and I agree he’s can be frustrating and tries to do too much.
Seems to rely on his arm strength even when a throw just isn’t there
But, we’ve seen QBs (Burrow and Daniels) make it unbelievable strides in one offseason.
If Nuss commits to the program and plan like JB did between 18 and 19 or like JD did with Kelly/Denbrock/Sloans offseason plan, Nuss can make similar strides and be more efficient and take better care of the ball.
If his grasp of the offense and decision making can begin to match his arm talent, we will be more than fine.

quote:Nope. Some nutjobs wanted Nuss over Daniels despite Nuss looking lost every time he came in last year except for the 2nd half vs UGA. Some of those same nutjobs would still want Nuss over Daniels now and you know several of them on this board by name.
I think it’s more of a not knowing who the best player is than not wanting the best player to play.
Don't play stupid.

quote:That, and the OL isn't pure trash.
Many posters here believe running ability offsets pressure on the QB when in fact the opposite is true. JD didn’t go from the most sacked QB in program history to taking few sacks because he became faster. He’s eliminated the sacks because the ball comes out on time.

So before the season there was a lot of Nuss peeps saying he would be the starter that JD5 was horrible.
There was a thread full of that this season just before the Miss St. game in which multiple people disparaged JD.

And this one started by FLBooGoTigs1 post FSU on 9-4-2023 specifically saying JD handcuffs the offense

Ricky Collins…Thats BK type of QB and he will have to earn it like JD did but I have faith he will. I’ve seen all I need to see of Nuss. I hope I’m wrong about him.
