LSU does not need a new arena.

In 2019, I went to Illinois' State Farm Center (old Assembly Hall) which opened in 1963.

They had certainly made SOME upgrades to the seating and dome areas, but the concourse areas and "general" areas were behind what the PMAC has.

The difference? About 80% capacity for a mid-afternoon December game against an HBCU. (East Tennessee, I think.)

(This picture is not from that game.)

It was a great ENVIRONMENT for college basketball, which the PMAC almost always is not.

I agree we need a new state of the art basketball arena, but I don't want it to be small. Keep the capacity at at least 14,000 and let's pack it like we used to do when I was in school during the Dale Brown days.

As far as the baseball stadium is concerned, I was underwhelmed from the beginning. We went on the cheap when we didn't have to. Not only that, the stands are too far away from the foul lines and are not steep enough, hence the roar of the crowd is not nearly as loud as it was in the old Box which held 3,000 fewer people. It was poorly designed IMO.

There are many reasons why Tiger Stadium can be so loud and intimidating. The fans obviously are the most important factor, but the steep configuration of the lower bowl also has a lot to do with it.

Put the new arena where Parker coliseum currently sits, demolish the the PMAC and create a green space/common area with a stage for live music and/or college gameday.

Unrealistic, yes. Logistically impossible, maybe. But sounds and looks cool in my head.

From what I understand what Coach Wade wants more than anything is a big upgrade to his training/practice facilities. That’s where players spend their time, not inside the arena. He wants the best for his guys.
Didn't we just finish the new practice facility in his first year here? I admit that it is pretty bare and underwhelming.

Funny that you brought up Illinois. The Ubben Basketball complex has everything Wade has asked for under 1 roof - offices, meeting rooms, weight room, training room, locker room, lounge, practice gym. It’s beautiful, and they’re in the midst of a 32+million dollar renovation to enlarge and improve upon it.

We aren’t even close.

But LSU will do what LSU does and cut corners and the end product will looks like shite and/or be outdated within a couple of years.

FACT. Just Like the new Box.

Yall are forgetting about the Design and Architectural abomination that is the new south end zone
upper deck expansion.

The hideous offset "Great White Wall of Nothing" that dominates the entire South End exterior is an embarrassment. What Architect thought that this structure was a pleasing addition to historic Tiger Stadium? (There is basically 4 totally different designs to each Side/End of the stadium)

There's no telling what the Delicate Genius's would come up with for a new PMAC design.

None of that is happening anytime soon. LSU just took a $50 million revenue hit. The fan base and donor base took big hits as well

Taxes going up. Oil and gas off shore taking a Biden hit. Next ten years in Louisiana going to be pretty lean

New arena is $100 million minimum. TAM and Even Houston have more resources than LSU. TAM hugely more. TAM arena rumored to be $180 million.

It lacks any of the modern amenities sans gigantic scoreboard. Seats suck, no suites, club level. The freaking media in the student section. The seats are far away from the court. The old press row look on side opposite the benches should be court side seating.
The concourses are dated. The bathrooms are tiny and not well laid out.

I don't want the old Pete's Palace to disappear. That building has character and should be a protected landmark.

Why not borrow the money while interest rates are extremely low? We are also about to get an increase of around $20 million on the new ESPN tv rights deal. More than enough to cover the note

Yes - the basketball building was really nice. I parked right there and stuck my nose in whatever windows I could.

Anyway - that's not an ARENA, and my point still stands.

PMAC is old, outdated, and ugly. Will Wade deserves so much better.

Get a new stadium. It's time. So many SEC programs have much better venues than us. A new PMAC would help with not just basketball, but volleyball, gymnastics, etc.

Ever been to Gonzaga? Fairly certain the arena isn't winning basketball games.

Sadly it’s gonna take something like losing Wade to another SEC school before this gets any traction.

All they would have to do is follow the architectural style that was used to design LSU's campus -- pantile roofs, archways and stucco walls. There are plenty of rectangular buildings on campus they could use for inspiration. As an added bonus, the building would be guaranteed to always fit in with the rest of the campus. It also wouldn't be outdated 10 years after it was built or look like a grounded UFO from a bad 1950s science fiction movie.

Yes it’s time. We need a state of the art arena. The PMAC needs demolished and turned into a big green space for tailgating.

I agree with new arena. There are things that could be done for both the fans and team with a new build. I went to the game in oxford last year, and that place has club or suite seating about 30 feet above the court. This allows the students to be seated all along the court on one side while allowing for premium seating for big donors. The concourse was also spectacular and open, felt like it would allow for standing room. That's what I would hope for. Some lower mid level premium seating ion both sides. Lower sideline for students only on one side(like it used to be). And about 10k seats with room to let about 500-1000 in for sro for big games.
