Now what will Lane do?

quote:

Under the new rule approved Wednesday, if medical personnel enter the field to evaluate an injured player after the ball is spotted by the officiating crew for the next play, that player's team will be charged a timeout. If the team doesn't have any timeouts remaining, a five-yard delay-of-game penalty will be assessed.

The player should have to sit out a quarter.

You’d be punching holes in your wall the first time our starting QB gets a little shaken up and has to sit out of the 4th quarter of an SEC title game.

I agree with the rule change. If a player is legitimately injured then he should go/stay down immediately. If a player gets injured after the ball is set, tough luck.

That is a TERRIBLE idea. Timeouts and penalties if someone gets hurt? Just wait until a game is decided on that idiocy

some of those concussions take a second to really register, going on pure adrenaline for a couple seconds before you feel it

something has to be done though, thank your local ole miss team for this

Read it again. A player who is down prior to the ball being spotted doesn’t cost the team anything. This will specifically address the guys looking to the sideline then going down after getting a signal to do so.

Not tough enough. Let them sit out the series.

Most of the time, when a real injury occurs the player goes down immediately. This rule does nothing to those situations.

It will, however, fix issues like this:

Jokes on you. As long as BK is coaching we won't have to worry about an SEC title game.

-kidding, I don't feel this way but there are members of the rant that do.

So now the player will fake an injury BEFORE the ball is spotted

If I had to guess they’ll be trained to collapse as soon as a tackle is made in certain situations.

The player exits the field on his own power at that point. There’s no reason to kneel down and stop play because you got your bell rung. Getting your bell rung happens all of the time in football. A player knows when he’s had his brain scrambled.

This won't stop the fakes, but will just make them less obvious.
