If the game had been at 6 and rain delayed, more people would have been pisses off.

He takes the best info they have and goes with it. I don’t have a complaint about how he manages but if I were an opposing fan, I’d hate how when lsu gets 2 quick outs, he calls an offensive timeout. I love the strategy but it would annoy the shite out of me if I was the coach of the other team

The day games are weather related also. It’s the warmest part of the day and you don’t have to sit in the cold at night game bitching about how cold it is and the game should be played in the sun.

Here is Antoine Duplantis' reaction to such a game (Mississippi State vs. LSU super-regional-2017) when the game was put into a rain delay for the third time as he was coming to bat.

It was also my reaction after reading the OP in this thread

A person can only make those decisions based on the future cast weather reports. There was a very high percentage for rain and extreme weather predicated for early evening.

So the better move would have been to say screw that.

I just wish he wouldn’t jump the gun so quick on changing game times because of weather.

He’s not “so quick” changing game times. He makes the decision soon enough to give organizers enough time to bump the game up earlier and get everyone there who needs to be there to put in a baseball game. That’s not something you can sit around and wait for until the last minute. They have to make the call based on the info they have. Blame the weatherman or God if you want to complain about predicting the weather incorrectly

Mine would be he’s slavishly devoted to R/L matchups

you have to be such a good hitter or irreplaceable defensively to not get subbed out based on the pitcher

this year we have so many options that I dont really mind

CJJ has explained, NUMEROUS TIMES, why he prefers a day game for opening games. Two years ago, if he hadn't started the game in the afternoon, Skeenes would have been pitching in 28 degrees weather. He's learned that nite games in Feb. are usually cold at best. He's protecting his players & I have no issue with him protecting his players. As for the fans. "not caring less", that's stupidity at its highest level. He's stated, numerous times. how much he loves & appreciates LSU's fans. And he always communicates with the opposing coach.

He’s a great coach, but how much of a homer to you have to be to think this is the only deficit he coaches with…he’s got several things to get better at

JJ priorities are winning games and taking care of his players.

Desires of fans are way, way below that.

If a game time is moved it’s because it puts the team in the best place to win / take care of players.

When it comes to weather you always need to make decisions with less that complete info. He chooses to err on the side of getting g the games in. Hard to be upset about that

I hate to break this to you, but JJ doesn't give AF about the fan's convenience or schedules and never will.

Does he determine times or is it the SEC offices?

If the game is not on broadcast TV, the home team determines the start times.

Yes, opening day is in the afternoon for one main reason. Weather temperature in early February. He does like his players and especially his pitchers throwing in 30 and 40 degree weather.
As far as change the times of games early due to possible inclement weather, is a hell of better than CPM waiting to the last minute or doing nothing and getting stuck in a rain delay in the 3rd or 4th inning and burning your starter.
Just a small inconvenience to make sure games get in and player's safety considered.
