From a parent’s perspective, one with a college football prospect HS Sr, the year of transfer portal and 105 roster limits (that flooded the market) was less than joyful.
Although landed in a great place, this phase NCAA football transition sucked much of the life out of the recruiting process.

The impotent NCAA will never sort it out. The SEC, BIG10 and ACC need to get together and make rules limiting the number of portal transfers among the 3 conferences and putting rational caps on NIL payouts. The rest will follow suit quickly enough.

Can they do that?

see this is where yall sound stupid.....the ncaa was over ruled by the courts. there is nothing they or anyone else can do unless its a collective bargaining agreement with a union
even with the upcoming revenue sharing....unless the courts change their mind...players will be able to make money outside of that because the case literally said....illegal to restrict players from making money from NIL.

Correct. The NCAA nor the conferences cannot place such restrictions without approval from the athletes themselves with would require a players union & CBA.

It's why you'll see more CFB coaches take NFL jobs instead. Saban put it best. 18 year olds aren't interested in getting free education and a degree which prepares them down the road. They're interested in how much are they are going to be paid. It's why he quit coaching. Belichick will soon realize how big of a mistake he made taking a college job. Personally, I think about 90% of them are just stacking their retirement fund, and could care less , due to salaries at major programs are now in the millions. Go ask BK if he would take a buyout of 70-80 million, or deal with the NIL BS?

When was this??? The "vandy boys" have only won two national championships and if that's your view of dominating college baseball.... WTF is LSU baseball?

quote:I keep seeing people say this but you know what’s not low? College sports ratings. They’re at all time high. What’s happening is these networks are perfectly fine losing a few old long time fans and replacing them with twice as many younger fans.
My interest in college sports is at an absolutely all time low
Also did Kim forget where Angel Reese and Morrow came from? I can’t seem to find anything from when they committed to lsu out of high school? Can anyone clarify? Would be pretty hypocritical to complain about nil and the portal while at the same time having two of your best players come from the portal.

My interest is at a low point other than college baseball. It’s more because BK isn’t championship quality and MM has cratered basketball.

Listening to the interview I think a big part of her frustration is the fact that the portal opens up during the NCAA Tournament. She mentions not even having a second to reflect on the final game and this season. They were having to contact portal players on the flight home.

So many of these athletes have been told since birth that they are special, that they are exceptional, and that they deserve to start. There is an entitlement mentality with many of these players. I've noticed these past couple of years that coaches of a certain age are retiring from the college sports. Saban, the MBB head coaches at Miami, Villanova, and Virginia, Chip Kelly relinquishing the head coaching job at UCLA to become the OC at Ohio State. With that move, he lost millions but probably gained some years on his life. Anson Dorrance, the head women's soccer coach at UNC-Chapel Bill retired last year. He had 21 natty's. I speculate that Coach Mulkey is one who just wants to coach...I coached as a GA in college, I coached HS football for 25 years and I can't imagine having to ascertain, daily, if I'm gonna have a kid for the next game. The starting QB's at both UNLV and Boston College packed it in mid season...I find it comically sad that Bryce Underwood is making more per year, as an 18 year old, that 3/4 of the Michigan football staff...AND he's never played a down of college football. Crazy stuff...

Our subcontractors vs their subcontractors. I’ve been divested since Joe B left.

Great lead in post and a great interview. I’ll admit I only listened to the first 7 minutes and then I started thinking about S A Smith and wondered why does he not talk about this interview? I know the answer. Only those with an ulterior motive/agenda could disparage this coach. She has only two motives. 1 Giving young kids guidance and compassion. 2 WINNING!

The players who hit the portal all the time are the people who would be benchwarmers and depth pieces in the old NCAA
They are also the lone all American at a mid major team. There are 7 1 seeds and a 2 seed between the men and women final four this year. Do you think that's good for the sport if it continues? There wasn't a lot of madness in March. I think I heard that there were only 4 conferences represented in the men's sweet 16. It used to be the mid majors that had a starting line up full of 4 year seniors and experienced juniors had a shot at the title. That might never happen again.

This is the reason Saban left. Trying to maintain a roster with NIL and Transfer portal at play. Throw in the fact that it involves 18 to 23 year old kids and lots of money with no regulation. What could go wrong? Fresh/Soph that used to build depth are now gone after their first year. Other teams pouching players, kids thinking the grass is greener elsewhere etc..I think a lot of coaches are feed up but as a fan it really does make you question is this really worth my time?

They want their reparations. It is sickening. Make no mistake, everything they touch turns to shite. Look at all the inner cities now. Look across the country at the once nice neighborhoods. Give them an inch, they will take a mile, until there is nothing left. Everything about collegiate sports has changed, by far for the worse. I know I'm not the only one that has lost a LOT for college athletics over the last several years. I had already quit pro sports on all the Floyd absolute bs, black lives matter shite. At least we still had college. Well, that is going down too. As people continue to lose passion over the state of collegiate sports, it is only a matter of time before they completely destroy it. Players used to announce their school in big playoff games. Now, it'll be, johnny turncoat, University of Florida/University of Alabama/LSU.

The pros don't have this wild West crap and for good reason.

I think Kim's time in the business is short. She and Saban have a low tolerance for what's going on. Coaches now matter less then the NIL budget.
Coaches with big egos need to feel like they matter.
