Dardar & Fontenot are 5th year Louisiana kids. Guidry is a 4th year Louisiana kid, brown is a 3rd year La kid, Pearson 2nd. The statement was 4-5th year Louisiana guys. Not how many years they were at LSU. Reading comprehension, Learn it

But the majority has to come from homegrown kids from Louisiana.

No. You do that and you’re ULL or La Tech. A solid program, but you aren’t competing for Omaha.

I think the issue is that potential wise, they have (9) 3 hole hitters in the lineup. If we’re not slugging the ball around the park we’re not scoring

I kinda feel bad for the guys. Is what it is, but nobody feels worse about the struggles than them.

Now lets talk about pitching

Sure

They currently rank 2nd in strikeouts

Are they giving up walks, yes, but it’s not bad.

What is hurting them is a walk followed by what should be a routine out or double play, but instead fielding error.

That then leads to run or multi run innings.

LSU defensively has committed more errors this season than all of last year. That’s pretty alarming.

So when you bring up pitching, you have to acknowledge the strikeouts are elite. They’re about avg on walks, but the fielding is killing them.

So to summarize, hitters are swinging for the fences instead of having an approach to move runners.

Pitching staff isn’t elite or has elite starter as in past, but 2nd in strikeouts ;(elite), but avg on walks.

Fielding is avg, more errors at this point than all of last year and its first of April.

Maybe, or maybe he will fight harder to keep the costellos and mikey ryan’s, and ashton larsons on the team

Ryan at 2B, Brown at 1B, Larson RF is a big upgrade.

100% agree. Which is why we leave base runners stranded more often than most. Everyone swinging for the fences and not putting the ball in play. We do a horrible job of changing our approach with two strikes. Way too many pop ups in critical at bats.

It feels like he is saying he needs to take these PG 10 guys that he has been recruiting and get them on the field early enough so that they don’t transfer out and stop relying on these PG 7&8 guys that transfer from online colleges.

Was having this convo in the box last night. Would you rather take your lumps with freshmen or failed transfers? I think that's an easy choice.

Now the counter is, if you portal correctly, you never have to take your lumps.

The hard part is this....he wants it to be his 3rd and 4th year guys. But to get there and keep them from transferring they have to be playing early. You are at a disadvantage when you have a lot of first year guys out there against other teams with stud 3rd year players.

Puts you between a rock and a hard place which he is trying to navigate.

Jay has said many times that having an older team is an advantage. It is. Look at all the current good teams in all the sports. They are generally old

100% agree. It is a difficult balance. Also, how many coaches would have cut a finger off to have Curiel, Stanfield, Brown, and Milam returning to build off of?

It's easy to second guess how this roster was constructed in hindsight. The fact that Caraway, Simpson, Yorke, and Dardar were all misses is hard to overcome and maybe a bit of bad luck.

Especially collegiate coaches. I wouldn’t think twice about coaching in the professional league over college now with all the NIL and transfer portal bull shite that college coaches have to deal with today. Just trying to retain the current players on your team in college is a 24/7 365 day a year job

I understand what you're trying to say but pro ball is an absolute grind. 162 regular season games not to mention spring training. There is very little off time and you do not get to control your roster at the MLB level. The GM does that and not always the way you want it.

I feel like he would love to have Mikey Ryan at 2B this year. Kid is hitting .328 in the ACC and .302 overall with 8 HRs. Would be able to slide into SS next season.

He missed on a few pitchers. Rizy and williams have not developed. They have been pure arse cheeks.

Your base has to be built from Louisiana.

No. Your base needs to be built with talented freshmen who can play in the system for 3 years. Wherever they come from.

You supplement that base with a few homegrown diehard players that dream of playing for LSU and show some potential development.

And you supplement with the portal when needed. You won’t get too many Paul’s Skenes and Tommy Whites but maybe you get lucky sometimes. But maybe you can pull in a Hernandez or a Dickinson when you need to.

Nobody forgot about those guys but the margin for error in taking a player is a lot higher when the jump in competition is consistently that big. Sometimes you take the guy from AF and he turns into the best in the world. Sometimes the Utah Valley guy turns into a super solid player. Sometimes the guy from Grand Canyon turns out to be unplayable but when that happens you're totally fricked.
