He’s such an insufferable douche.
Opens show with “rant” about brown. Then explains “sorry guys, I didn’t meant to rant like that. But you know me, if you push certain buttons I can go off.”
I give it 24 hours before he posts a YouTube short with his “spur of the moment” rant for more clicks.

Of all the things to question (and I had quite a few), why is this the thing he goes off about? Brown, going into yesterday, hadn't been swinging the bat very well for a couple of weeks. Frey has hit very well, and has way more power. So if you want Brown in the lineup, the discussion should be whether or not he should take playing time away from Pearson, in my opinion.

When I catch him I just forward past his horrible intro, his AFR song is tired and the Bud Light sponsorship is odd.
That said, I don't understand the hate that he gets on this board. He might have some bad takes sometimes but he is one of the more pragmatic voices for the Tigers he loves and seems like a good father.

I like AFR and I don’t know Matt personally but he definitely comes off as a an arrogant a-hole a lot of times. He loves to berate fans (often by name on the show) about being wrong but will never admit to making a mistake or having a wrong take himself. Also his constant nagging of his producer Musso on the show just comes across poorly.

I would be more ok, right now, with Brown taking Jones spot than Freys. Jones had the HR yesterday, but has been pretty irrelevant the last couple of weekends. He has continued playing good defense on 1st.

People will bitch about anything. Frey is batting .370+ with the highest slugging on the team. With half the at bats as the full time starters. Brown has done nothing wrong. LSU just has too many quality players. Pretty damn good problem to have I would say. Dumbarse Moscona needs to be wondering why Pearson is playing over Brown if anyone needs to be replaced. I’m fine with Pearson out there but Frey needs to be ok the lineup everyday.

Moscona is an arse but he is dead right on Brown. Play the guy everyday.

if Josh Pearson was doing what Brown is, he would be in the lineup every single day batting 3rd
The problem is that Pearson is basically in the lineup almost every single day and he’s not close to Brown.

One thing that gets over looked with Brown is his speed, he's extremely fast.

Ethan Fry has the highest BA on the team.
Now… let’s do SEC games only stats:
Brown .302 2 HR 14 RBI
Frey .244 2 HR 7 RBI

Two problems here.
1) Frey doesn’t have to be benched to play Brown everyday. They don’t play the same position. It’s Jay forcing Pearson in the lineup no matter his struggles in the field or plate.
2) Frey’s overall stats are skewed. His batting average against conference pitching is HALF of his batting average against non-conference pitching. We need guys that can hit the weekend pitching.
I love Frey. He’s everything I want at LSU. Talented, Loyal, Louisiana guy, friendly to kids. My kids have his autograph on 5-10 things. If I bought my kids a jersey today, it would be his. Unfortunately, he’s not producing when it matters most.

And his love affair with Frey. I get why Johnson loves Frey he looks the part but he definitely does not play the part.
Coming into a game in which Frey did poorly and Brown did well, how did their batting numbers compare?
And, as Lester pointed out, Brown does not DH. Typically, Josh Pearson DHs if Frey is out of the lineup.
The argument is whether Brown or Pearson should be playing in right (or Larson, who is probably the better fielder). Objectively, it should probably be Brown over Pearson.

I agree, but mid week.

I don’t watch many games
But Brown has a sub 100 wRC+ for the year, that’s below average
Why should he automatically be an everyday lineup guy?

I don't think that number is accurate. On D1, he's 110 wRC+ today.
We have some guys who aren't hitting SEC pitching. Their numbers are inflated because they kill mid-week pitching. I know the broadcast shows everyone's overall stats for the season. That's when guys like Frey and Jones look like they are having great seasons. But that isn't the case. To be clear, Jones has to stay in the lineup. He's can change a game with one swing, but I wouldn't have him in the 2 or 3 hole.
wRC+ in SEC only games. (overall wRC+)
Stanfield 147 (125)
Dickinson 135 (160)
Curiel 124 (146)
Brown 116 (110)
Braswell 104 (81)
Hernandez 97 (92)
Pearson 81 (130)
Frey 78 (149)
Reaves 75 (111)
Milam 69 (117)
Jones 68 (156)
