You're trying to take a stupid arse tangent of an innocent question. Quit being so fricking defensive. This discussion isn't about what characteristics are most important to qb play.

There is no need to exaggerate Joe's arm strength. It's not a knock on him. It's really his only weakness. There have been quite a few times he has underthrown deep balls.

As you state, he has learned how to use touch and timing to make the right throw and play to his strengths.

I would be a little surprised if Brennan can chunk it farther and faster than Mett. Harris had a strong arm as well.

i'm not saying mett didn't have a big arm but i just remember him not throwing the ball with a lot of velocity lots of times.

Mett was really good at throwing to the opposite hash with accuracy, which shows a lot of arm strength.

I'm not concerned with his arm. I just know whoever is next will have big shoes to fill when it comes to the grasp they have on the offense and the ins and outs. Burrow is in full command.

Yeah, Harris could spin it.

Brennan if only based on arm talent

This is the correct answer.

There were a few balls to Chase that would have been a TD if Burrow had placed it better, and then Chase bailed him out on the first TD.

But his first pass to Chase on that drive was a thing of beauty and he nails everything else.

Accuracy - Burrow big time, Strength - Brennan.

I think Brennan is just as accurate, and has a stronger arm. Burrow's big advantage is coolness under pressure and toughness.

Arm talent is about 10 % of what makes a great qb.

1. Accuracy
2. Decision making
3. Leqdership
4. Toughness
5. Mobility in the pocket.

Accuracy is part of arm talent. And arm talent is far more than 10% of what makes a great QB.

BTW, if the OP was a troll attempt aimed at Buckeye Jeaux, it worked.

Let me start by saying that Burrow will go down as the best quarterback to ever play at LSU.

That being said, there have been a couple of throws where he had to give it everything he had. You can see what kind of of arm strength he has. It’s not a strength of his.

Peyton Manning (despite the commercial claiming he had a “laser, rocket arm”) didn’t have a strong arm either (the latter half of his career at least). He was able to make quick decisions and get rid of the ball before the receivers could outrun his arm.

I agree BJ. The biggest arm in the NFL was the biggest flop.
Jamarcus Russell....

brandon harris would stop practice when he threw.

he could throw a ball THROUGH the barn... if he could hit it.

Burrow's mobility will be a huge miss probably with the transition to Brennan. Not sure if Myles has any wheels or not.

This whole thread is one thinly disguised troll. Foregone conclusion should answer your original question. If throwing distance as QB is like driving a golf ball, then little doubt but that MB has the cannon arm. So why try to compare him to JB in this one way?

Distance is great - but being effective as QB field general is entirely different.

Lame comparison.

Burrow could knock down a brick wall if he chose to. Burrrow throws with touch because he WANTS to. Not because he can't throw smoke,

Judge a QB by his ability to complete passes (at a high completion percentage) to every area of the field. NOT by his choice to throw hard when an underhand toss would be 5 times more effective.

Burrow throws bullets when he NEEDS to. Which is not all that often. BTW, it takes MUCH more skill to throw with touch than to throw all fastballs.
somebody's offended.

btw, JRUSS->Mett->Brennan->Burrow if speaking only in "live arm" talent.

Joe can make all the throws, though.

And accuracy, ACCURACY, is critical. Hopefully, Brennan can bring that along with pre- and post-snap identification.

Does Brees have elite arm talent?

Definitely not. I'd say he used to. He was always a little on the weak side, but his accuracy was unbelievable. Now, his arm is very weak for an NFL QB, and it's affecting his effectiveness. He makes up for it with elite decision making and preparation.
