Can someone explain the issue with the knife and accusation? On the surface, it seems like an over the top reaction.

This prob sounds crazy but my wife’s cousin’s husband (yeah I know) does some coaching at Sam Houston and he said Victorian should make it to campus..

Caminiti, struck out a whopping 119 batters in 52? innings

That's hard to do if they're not even swinging

Thanks for posting but I start memorizing this material after they show up on campus.

Half of them will never set foot on the LSU campus to play baseball.

Volunteer Strength and Conditioning coach. I don't think this person is still the S&C coach for Barbe. I believe he moved on after the incident.

It was a volunteer coach who also happens to be the dad of one of the best freshmen in the Country(Jordan Griffin).

Landon Victorian, RHP: Victorian was expelled from Barbe High in Lake Charles for allegedly showing a pocket knife to his coach during a meeting. His attorney Todd Clemons told KPLC 7 News that Victorian still intends on playing for the Tigers in the fall.

That is extremely disingenuous to say he showed him a pocket knife. WOW…That isn’t the story that was on the recruiting board. “Hey check out my cool old timer…” Does anyone believe Cecchini would kick his best player off the team for showing a coach a pocket knife?

The kid just got back from Gatlinburg and bought a really sweet knife on the strip. He just wanted to show his strength coach what he found and it got blown WAY out of proportion.

Honest question here & pardon my ignorance.

But for talented HS kids the likes of Griffin, Caminiti, Bryce Harper, etc., Where they know that they will be taken in the 1st round of the MLB draft and there is no chance they will step foot on a college campus, what is the point of even "committing" to a school at all?

Is it simply a back-up plan in case they get injured &/or don't get drafted as highly as they would have liked?

TIA

Bryce Harper wasn't drafted out of high school. He was drafted out of JUCO.

Leverage mostly. You’re negotiating with the top teams throughout the draft process. If you go “I need this number or I’m going to school” it comes off a lot more believable if you already have a school commitment in place.

Debatable on how effective it actually is in real leverage, so at the very least it’s a backup plan for those things you mention or not getting drafted where expected. The only real risk is on the teams holding out a spot for the player that’s unlikely to make it to campus, and the opportunity cost of the potential replacement you would’ve had and we’ve been burned in the past before there, but a risk you have to take at times because sometimes these guys do end up at college unexpectedly (ie cam Johnson last year)

Where does the class rank nationally? Or even in the SEC?

Strength coach was harassing him BAD. Pulled a pocket knife and swung it around. Definitely an issue. Would be surprised if he makes it to LSU.

No, but I also think had he pulled the knife out and swung it at the coach, he would have been arrested and charged with a crime. The truth likely lies somewhere in the middle.

I think he showed it to/pointed it at the coach in a threatening manner because they were in an argument. That is enough for us to say no thank you.

Glad to see the rant insiders have a consensus on this one

My post is me spinning the story into a nothing burger so the kid can pitch for LSU. I have no idea what actually happened.

I also heard that Landon tripped and fell on a knife and when he got up the coach assumed he pulled it on him...
