1980–81 Mike Krzyzewski 17–13 6–8 T–5th NIT Quarterfinal
1981–82 Mike Krzyzewski 10–17 4–10 T–6th —
1982–83 Mike Krzyzewski 11–17 3–11 7th —

Coach K was in a better confernece to recruit, better area to recruit, and his record for the first three seasons was not only bad but appeared to be declining in quality. The next 11 seasons they were in the playoffs and had 7 final four appearances with 2 championships and two runner-up outcomes.

Different culture completely now, and no patience in fan bases. Probably needs at least one more season now that the Kiffin dust has settled.

I find it utterly hilarious that Rant's chosen coach who they've clamored for in place of McMahon is none other than Chris Beard who is even worse than McMahon

It’s been four years. We’ve been more than patient.

The PMAC will be a ghost town if he is brought back. Hopefully only 400 people go to the games next year en route to another failed season. I want total humiliation for all accomplices to this travesty.

Uh……Chris Beard has been to a title game. McMahon hasn’t even come close to getting a P4 school to the tournament.

Maybe sit this one out.

He has twice as many double digit conference losses as he does conference wins. Coach K took over a program in an era where you had to build with recruiting classes and took over a really bad program.

MM took over a program that had been to 4 straight NCAA tournaments and had the ability to completely remake the roster instantly.

There is ZERO justification for keeping him another year.

I can’t believe we really may keep this guy . Just disbelief that we have someone with pull come out and back McMahon . I just don’t get it , how can anyone think this guy deserves another season . Please fire him , please !

I’d say he has a massive say in what happens. They are our main money source.

Hunt Palmer said today that he was involved with the hiring of Kiffin. I find that hard to believe.

We’re not a serious athletic program. Football is the only thing that matters I suppose.

Meanwhile Oregon State is letting Wayne Tinkle go at the end of the season. He got them to the Elite 8 five years ago. Just another athletic department that proves they have higher standards than LSU’s amateur hour operation.

"Mens Basketball is a money maker and with a competent coach and more people in the seats, it could be a big economic driver for the school."

Regardless of the coach or the record, basketball will NOT be a big economic driver, UNLESS the broadcast contracts change. The women's team has large crowds and deep runs in the dance and still lose a bunch of money. Why? Broadcast contract payments are insignificant compared to the men's game. We have been abysmal for four years in men's basketball. Weak attendance and no dancing, yet they make money. Why? Broadcast contract payments which are insignificant to the broadcast contract payments in football. Those willing to pay for advising rights know where the "eyes" are looking.

Bama MBB a few years ago was where LSU MBB currently is - profiting $1-2 million a year. Bama found the right coach and with their newfound success, profited $5.5 million two years ago and $9.5 million last year. LSU could reasonably double or triple the current profit without having to hit the high Bama achieved.

EJ Kuiper was on the six person football coach search committee. His voice carries weight.

This Kuiper guy didnt have shite to do with getting Kiffin to LSU. He just listened to the contract asks. Once Woody was gone, Kiff was in

He revisited how former LSU coach Nick Saban advised him to take the LSU job. “He said, ‘You know, Lane, you’ll always regret it, if you don’t go to LSU. It’s the best job in America,'” Kiffin said. “That really made the decision for me.”

10/26 - BK fired
10/30 - Woody leaves
10/31 - Verge named to lead search
11/4 - Verge named permanent AD
11/4 - Verge says Saban is out (after Nick told Kiff to take the job)
11/4 - Search committee finalized with addition of Rousse

Verge got the permanent job, because he got Kiffin

You-know-who couldn’t wait to tweet that either. For some reason, he really wants McMahon to stay. Very bizarre.

matt is a shill for SWW. his allegiance clouds his judgement of how bad of a job that and a mess he left. the 2 money making sports he whiffed on. LSU was left holding the bag.

Beard is superior to McMahon by any objective measure.

That doesn’t doesn’t necessarily mean Beard should be coach at LSU as being better than McMahon doesn’t really narrow the list at all.

I get your point but this comparison is an olympic-level stretch especially when you account for that 1982 recruiting class that ultimately saved Coach K, also Coach K had Duke in the ACC title game Year 4 and an NCAA 3-seed. CMM doesn't have LSU anywhere near those accolades in Year 4 -- end of comparison.

Dude retained 3 LSU players and brought 4 with him from Murray State, including KJ Williams and CoachMc himself said he could have chosen to bring more if he wanted.

Just bc some guy gives an opinion on social media doesn’t mean diddly

The head of the largest corporate donor to the university? His opinion doesn’t mean anything? I hate to break it to you skippy, but yeah, his opinion means a lot. If you believe otherwise then you are not very bright. The donors are tightening their purse strings for this cycle. As hard as it is to believe, you need to come to grips with the fact that McMahon is likely at LSU for the 26-27 season.

It's not as much misinformation as it is a total lack of knowledge about college basketball in general. Most of the people who still have this opinion sill think all of LSU's players entering the portal after a coaching change was an extreme anomaly vs the norm when any coaching change is made now.

Just look at A&M. New HC in his first season at a major conf. school with ZERO returning scholarship players from last year. All he's done so far is go 19-9 (9-6)

I’m just banking on him being here throughout his contract at this point (until 2029). The LSU athletic department loves to talk a big game but they are just amateurs and love repeatedly giving the middle finger to their own fans.

We’ll probably be on the bubble one of those years but ultimately on the wrong side of it. It will be enough for McMahon to get an extension.

Give Lane a season or two and university starts raking in the cash and I'm sure the MBB program will be addressed. I love basketball but Foosball is mostly important. That gets back on track and MBB will follow. Just be patient
