re: First LSU game I attended

Posted by Blanding on 7/2/26 at 7:31 pm to
My first game was LSU and Tulane, Nov 25, 1961. A beautiful day and witnessed an ole fashion beat down with my Dad, Mother, two brothers and a sister. We were dressed for Sunday services and sat in the south end zone.

My dad coached in north Louisiana after graduating from LSU. My uncle taught real estate law at LSU. Back then coaches could attend with their coaching card. The train ride from Shreveport to Baton Rouge, staying with my uncle and walking to the games. This thread has generated many fond memories.
I watched Brandon throw every pass at Green Bay. From the time he first stepped on the field to the last interception. I've never seen a person throw a prettier spiral than him. His accuracy was abysmal. The warm up drill where you start 10 yards apart and keep backing up was shocking. The person catching Brandon's passes was getting a cardiovascular workout jumping, chasing those inaccurate throws. During the entire warm up drill process, I never saw an accurate pass.

The video was posted on the final offensive play. You had two recievers. One on the hash and one on the sideline. He threw it to the Wisky defender between them. He hit the Wisky defender perfectly, I think it was intended for one of our recievers and he missed that badly.

re: LSU's HR record is intact

I say the home run record is in trouble and will fall. The reason for the hypothesis is BBCOR bats were introduced supposedly as safety measures for the pitchers, corner infielders, and coaches in the boxes.

With the BBCOR introduction, there were multiple years inwhich a batted ball never made it to the warning track between the power allies at Schwab Field. The NCAA started tinkering with the ball by lowering the stitching. This brought the homerun back with "safe" exit velocities. We are now seeing exit velocities like in the 90s. If the ball remains juiced and if the bats stay "hot", the record will fall and safety is no longer an issue.

PS: When they lowered the seams on the ball to reduce wind resistance to generate greater carry, few remember the effect that had on ball movement when pitched. All breaking balls are flatter today than they were before the change, simple physics.
My favorite was when Texas and LSU met at 'Blatt in the thrilling 3 game finals. Our tickets for game three were behind the Texas dugout and we where surrounded by Texas fans. Kinda felt like Travis at the Alamo. The butt whipping was complete and we had the section to ourselves toward the end of the game. We experienced a close up of the championship dog pile and trophy presentation.

We withnessed the beatdown of Florida and the victories over Costal. We left disappointed once at the hands of the gators.
Saw LSU beat Texas (Rosenblatt), Florida and Costal. Saw them lose to Florida.

Unbelievable experience. If you love sports is is a bucket list must do.

ESPN APP Problems/Support Help Needed

Posted by Blanding on 5/16/26 at 6:59 pm
Good afternoon

I'm old and the new technologies drive me up the wall. We have a Samsung Smart TV with a DirectTV Genie. We have ESPN, ESPN +, SEC and SEC +. We have occasionally had to delete our ESPN App and then reload it to make it work. Today, we watched the softball game. After the girls won we wanted to kill our buzz, so we tried to switch to the boys game and the ESPN app would not load. We deleted the app as our usual fix, but when we tried and reload the app, we got a message that the app is busy.

Do you think this is
1. ESPN app related
2. Direct TV
3. User incompetence
4. All of the above?

TIA for any help or suggestions.

PS: We ran a speed test on our network and through the tv and on both tests, the speed was blazing.
Hind sight is always 20/20.

When LSU was, in my opinion, underscored on the floor during the first rotation and OU was inflated or failed to recieve deductions for multiple misses on the vault the die was cast. LSU went to the vault, the same 1/2 steps received much larger deductions than OU. In those two rotations, I believe you're talking at least a .2 swing in total score which would obviously have been the difference. Yes, they took the lead after the 3rd rotation but only by .07. Maybe, those last two roations go differently if there is more pressure on OU.

re: ESPN App Issue

I too have Samsung and have not had many issues but I'm missing the game tonight because of the app not loading.
I've been watching LSU softball for a long time. I enjoy the pace of the game and it's evolution from slapping and bunting to scratch out a run to today's bombers. This is the dullest team in Beth's era. There's no joy or spark. In every game it's death by a thousand self inflicted wounds. Physical errors, mental errors, passed balls, throwing to wrong bases, etc. You see better tactical ball in little league. Over the years Beth's teams have been sound; this team isn't. Without reading too much into what you see on tv, there seems to be something going on much deeper between the players, coaches, and dugout.
"Mens Basketball is a money maker and with a competent coach and more people in the seats, it could be a big economic driver for the school."

Regardless of the coach or the record, basketball will NOT be a big economic driver, UNLESS the broadcast contracts change. The women's team has large crowds and deep runs in the dance and still lose a bunch of money. Why? Broadcast contract payments are insignificant compared to the men's game. We have been abysmal for four years in men's basketball. Weak attendance and no dancing, yet they make money. Why? Broadcast contract payments which are insignificant to the broadcast contract payments in football. Those willing to pay for advising rights know where the "eyes" are looking.
Redfish
The two sports that make money do so because of tv contracts. The best example is in men's and women's basketball right here in tigertown. The women lose money with large crowds and deep runs in the tournament. The men make money and the product is ??? All about the eyes on the product and what advertisement is willing to pay for a ROI.
The men have the potential to make more money. Not because of attendance, but because to television contracts and March Madness. Recently, the women's game has been drawing more eyes but it has not translated to new tv deals and bigger pay outs.

The television contracts are the money maker for football too.
Don't confuse the hysteria champaign with facts that don't fit their narratives.

Thank you for the feedback and probably saving my daughter's yard.

Fall Lawn Cocktail Spray rates

Posted by Blanding on 9/19/25 at 5:21 pm
I've calibrated my sprayer for 1000 sq ft. If my calculations are correct, I need 1 2/3 Tablespoons of Prodiamine 65 wdg and 2 teaspoons of Celsius wg. Do these dry measure volumes look correct for each 1000 sq ft of St Augustine?

TIA

re: It’s not Clemson!

I've mentioned that I taught at Clemson (88-92). This was during the end of the Danny Ford era. I was the faculty sponsor for the Letterman's Club. My goodness that was a colorful time. Your explanation of the pronunciation is spot on.

I taught a night class down at Newberry, dangerously close to Gamecock country. I required the class to meet once during the semester on campus. I was giving directions and one of the students said, "Just drive north. When you get close, roll down your windows and follow your nose." Clemsum
is the A&M University for South Carolina and had lots of bovine Agriculture.
