I've been listening to the games most of this season instead of watching them. Chris does just fine. I really don't understand the complaints toward him. I can follow him, and I can visualize the play as he describes it. Thats what I'm looking for.

The TV announcers were saying the same thing. Also I was in the car and listening to Arkansas and Tennessee game. Arkansas hit a home run to take the lead back and the play by play and color analyst were both shocked the ball went over the wall. They thought the outfielder caught the ball. For at least 3 mins they were in shock that it left. The color analyst was saying how the Velo on the pitch was 84 and he was just hoping it would drop for a hit.

Sometimes it happens like that. Certainly off the bat it did not sound like a home run. I think people hate on Chris Blair just to hate. If you listen to other teams broadcasts, they don't sound any better. Certainly Chris Blair has a more professional sounding voice than other teams.

This is false.

Kinda hard to get excited about a ball that most thought was probably going to be an out. You could tell everyone in the stands had the same reaction.

Dumb melt.

I’d rather hear Hawthorne say “Way Back there, Way Back there, caught at the wall”

I also remember the late years of Hawthorn saying it’s way back there, way back there, and the right fielder brings it in for the out…and the ball was not even close to the warning track when the catch was made…

It got old quick those final few years…

I had to listen to the game because I was driving. Chris just sometimes takes too long to describe what happened so you have no idea what’s going on.

This could be a classic Rant statement:)

He got a little better for football games from year 1 to year 2. I did like his early baseball games. Over time, he just seems to be phoning it in.

Stark change from Hawthorne, who was energetic and engaged, even when making gaffe after gaffe.

Imagine Blair making the Warren Morris call...

When the bases are loaded & you hit a fly ball, you can’t come screaming out of the box because the guy on first can’t go anywhere until he sees if the ball is caught or not. Thats what Milam was doing.

Make jokes and laugh about that call but Rollins did the same thing or worse just this season and nobody dogged him.
Jim was BY FAR the best overall play by play announcer we’ve had at LSU in terms of calling all sports and it isn’t close. He was really good at everything.

Just a lie. People on here that say crap like this didn’t listen to the games.

Jim Hawthorne was great at calling baseball games, even though he made mistakes his passion for the game was undeniable.

Ben McDonald and Lynn Rollins are my favorites. Id say 1A and 1B

Blair isn't bad just doesn't have the enthusiasm and knowledge the others do

Like what? That he was energized, or that he made lots of gaffes? Because both are true. He had a great voice and passion for calling games. In his later years I used to get frustrated listening to him call football games, because numerous times per game he would have a sequence like this:

“On first and ten it’s Johnson off right tackle for five yards.” Then when LSU lines up for the next play…
“Tigers facing second and seven.”

That might not seem like much, but when I’m listening on the radio that’s my only source of information, and the difference between a five and a three yard gain is the difference between an okay play and a good one.

Go take the time to listen to other schools announcers and you will see Blair is one of the best. He wasn't going to call it a HR until it was over the wall bc it barely got over. I was literally 2 feet from where it landed

I was hoping it was going to be deep enough for the runner on 3rd to tag.

I heard it when they were replaying the play of the game in 98.1.

Yes, it sounded like a lazy fly.

When you have bases loaded, you gotta make it sound a little interesting. Just hint that maybe it could go.

How about: “Bases loaded. Here’s the pitch. Milam swings. It’s in the air towards right….Right fielder is running back back to the wall. It might make it.….and….ITS A GRAND SLAM…Monster Milam just blew this game wide open. Wow!”

All sounds like a you problem. I don’t have any trouble visualizing the game when he calls them.
