You’re seeing more coaches say stuff like this because they are trying to say “we need more NIl money”

Except it is a pattern with him.

. I still have no idea why they hired him, or why he took that job at this point in his life.
Seems like he's some kinda pawn in a game Ray Tanner is playing

And the players could say they went up against a better coach than theirs every single weekend.
That’s rich coming from washed up Paul. He should’ve never come back but I guess if USC was dumb enough to pay him…

Nothing wrong with saying the other team put more talent on the field than we had me the numbers bare that out.

Yeah, he literally said “I don’t know what I could have done differently.” Also heavily implies that the players weren’t bought in, and very few of the current players will be returning.

Rebuilding programs isn’t really a thing any longer in the portal and NIL era
Of course it is…especially if the program doesn’t have that NIL infrastructure in place.

He’s not wrong. And it’s year 1. Why anyone was thinking a worst to first scenario w USCe was crazy

I’m just glad he’s no longer at LSU

Throwing kids under the bus would be blaming specific players for specific fails. His words indicate an awareness of the situation. If you or your kids feel this is being thrown under the bus, then we can scrounge up some participation ribbons.
The problem is that he’s playing a pretty young team, overall. A couple of those players look like they have potential to be good SEC starters and have taken lumps all season learning on the job. It probably wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to pull that statement back just a bit rather than lump the young guys who have potential and who you need to stay in with the scrubs.
Save the “we need money for NIL” speeches for the rubber chicken circuit.

USC wasn’t anywhere close to worst last year. And no one was expecting them to contend for the SEC but there’s a wide chasm between that and winning 6 SEC games. But for Missouri’s dreadful season, 6 wins would have been one off the record for the fewest since we moved to a 30 game schedule. I’m sorry, but there’s no excusing that away, not at that program

It was probably a transitional hire. Much like Mack Brown at UNC. The only sport they care about in North and South Carolina is basketball.

I can buy North Carolina, but South Carolina has plenty of love for football and baseball. North Carolina as well loves their baseball.

Who was responsible for LSU Football's struggles?
Now someone has invested a zillion bucks for the best talent in college football, in addition Orgeron's QB is still here.
Lets see if we can compete next season.
Does South Carolina have deep pockets as LSU?
In today's game if you can't pay you don't play, for long.

I lived in the Carolinas most of my life. The Carolinas are no where close to supporting other sports than basketball like other SEC schools.

All I know is he has been eating good and hasn’t changed.I still would not put my players under the bus even if the talent level isn’t equal. And he is not stepping down. They will have to force him out. Never liked him as a coach

I read it more as “we fought as hard as we could but when the other guy is Mike Tyson you’re going to get your arse kicked”.

Mediocre comments from a mediocre coach. He wasted so much talent at LSU to only win one NC.

That’s one way to look at it but then again it’s true: there’s more talent on the opposing team. It’s not *the* excuse but it is a (valid within reason) excuse when contextualized properly.
In life, the question isn’t just whether or not something you might say is true, but also whether or not it’s worth saying.
People don’t like coaches doing this, because what good purpose does it serve?
“We got outplayed, outhit, out pitched. We really struggled against their pitchers velocity.” He could say all that without throwing the guys under the bus.
