Tennessee is allocating about the same as LSU. They had to stop pursuing specific guys in the portal to make sure they had enough to get Landon Mack. And then when they got Landon Mack, the AD took all the money allocated for him and gave it to Women’s basketball. So they had to scramble and make it up from private money.

That’s the kind of shite we don’t need happening at LSU.

I don’t know exactly what Johnson said, but it was not that blatant. He must have been dropping subtle hints about wanting a bigger cut of the revenue sharing money. And considering how big of a percentage women’s basketball gets, I can see his point.

Johnson was interviewed on WWL yesterday and was asked about this. He response was that he was lucky to have Verge as an athletic director and that Verge knew what has to be done.

While building a new stadium at the same time

Do you know what happened with Volchko? Did we make him an offer?

I have to think Jay's funds took a hit last year. Previous years we were getting Skenes, Tanks, Hurd, Jump, Holman, Dickinson, Sheerin, types in the portal. Maybe there wasnt the same level of availability in this past years portal but i do seem to remember missing a few nice options. And Jay has commented on it himself

Whatever. It's a significant upgrade. Probably cost more than we spent on to build the Box

I don’t. I don’t have any inside sources on the LSU side. I don’t have any on the Tennessee side anymore after the coaching change. Every once in a while I have some on specific players, but that’s only been a couple guys over the years.

They are as all in as it gets. Not sure what else they can do.

Its hard to compare the two. State has accepted their fate as a football bottom dweller. LSU cannot and will not do that.

I do think some reordering is in order with Mulkey retires with regards to womens basketball resources.

Unless you can post a video of Johnson saying this I'll consider your claim is bullshite.

What makes you believe this? If anything economics and broadcasting changes point to the sport becoming even more regionalized.

Jay will not leave lsu for another program because of money. Go listen to Jay not Moscona and you’d know that. He wants to be at lsu till he retires.

LSU MBB made over a million in profit last season, LSU Baseball was in the red.

The SEC made a profit in MBB and the LSU got a cut of that profit merely by existing. That doesn’t mean a dollar spent on the MBB team is more valuable than a dollar spent on baseball.

Like it or not, WBB has its own TV contracts that bring in more revenue than the combined sports TV contracts baseball is a part of. It remains to be seen how Title IX will fit into revenue sharing, but if schools starting taking revenue earned by a women’s program and funnel to a men’s sport, they are asking for trouble.

10000%

If the only program OP can come up with that is devoting more of their resources to baseball is a program that has absolutely nothing else to hang their hat on then we’re in great shape. We are the premier program in college baseball and that along with what we invest in baseball will keep us at the top. I have no doubt MSU will be one of the elite programs alongside us though as their athletic program doesn’t have enough to compete in the revenue generating sports so it makes sense for them to go all in on baseball. Doesn’t make sense for LSU.

In a sport like baseball where a good amount of luck is needed to win titles there’s still no guarantee MSU will start winning championships anyway. FSU has still yet to win one after decades of being a premier program

to be all in on baseball (or more all in on baseball than we already are) you need $$$$

Money comes from football

We are balls deep on football which keeps jay's coffers full.

Gilbeau or not, this is a significant story. CJJ said:
quote:

...schools are going to have to decide what sports they want to be really good in. And there are some schools that are all in on baseball. And we need to be one of those schools. We’re not there yet. [emphasis added]

Publicly disagreeing with admin's decision is a shot across the PR bow. Jay is not happy. Verge's response:
quote:

...what are we going to be great at? What do we have to be great at?’ And that’s the football team.

IE Baseball is good anyway, and football is king. True in so far as it goes, but Jay isn't asking for money from football's portion, so Verge is missing the point (at best). It's fairly clear that Verge is not that bright, so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. But then Verge fvcks it up pretty badly:
quote:

Jay is the highest paid coach...LSU baseball loses money because of his salary"

That's the wrong answer. If we want to stay on top, we need to invest. This could be a new golden era, but we can not take that for granted. Jay will have a lot of very attractive offers if he keeps it up. We are very lucky to have a 48 year old baseball Saban, and you can bet you arse a historic and well funded program like Texas will come knocking.

Asked about his future at LSU vs taking the Vitello route, Jay says:
quote:

I’m very happy with what I’m doing. And I’m exactly where I should be in my life right now. [emphasis added]

To which Verge said:
quote:

...that would be a decision Jay would have to make – LSU or Major League Baseball.

Fvck that, and fvck Verge if he loses CJJ.

What they're saying in this article are not the words of two men who are seeing eye to eye on the issue. These are veiled threats. Very subtle ones, but also very real ones. It would be profoundly retarded to kill the golden goose and lose Jay, for any reason. The obvious choice is to take whatever he's asking out of WBB or even men's.

Yes, those are bigger sports, but LSU is never going to dominate them the way we do in baseball, and we will never have the history with them that we do with baseball.

Anyone who thinks baseball will be this good without Jay has a very short memory.

brah,
When it comes down to what will be supported, LSU will never ever be the most "all in" on baseball. Ever. Football rules the roost and always will. Having CJJ or not has nothing to do with that. People forget we lose money on baseball every year whether or not we win a championship. CJJ is not bigger than that. He could win 6 in 10 years like Skip did and that wouldn't change.

But, I would love to see which schools CJJ thinks are more all in on baseball than LSU.
There are two teams that have a bigger baseball budget than LSU. Tenn and UT.

I am not sure what he is complaining about. Is Florida more "all in" on baseball when their overall budget is 33% lower than LSUs?

Jay makes more than 18 of the 30 MLB managers. And when I say more, I mean he makes double what 18 teams pay their manager.
We are in the top 10 nationally for NIL across all sports. Thats including the fact that teams like OSU and Mich and Oregon don't have elite baseball programs at all.

All this considered, I would disagree and say this is NOT a significant story. It's Jay pushing for more. Fine. Get what you can get. But LSU isn't off when it comes to funding baseball.
Do we need to update the Box? Yes. but that's about it.
