If I got the context correct she did not call anyone a N-word. Instead she used the N-aa word like many POC and is used in many a Rap song... However she is not a POC so will she be defamed for being a racist or cultural appropriation.

If only blacks were judged for their actual derogatory comments on social media about other races.
If it’s bad Songs with the word should be banned from being played on social media and in public including athletic events and the blasting of it in cars to protect the offended from hearing it, and artists should not be allowed to profit from its usage in songs and other media. Sports should ban its usage by players to protect the ignorant from using it towards each other and propagating its usage amongst the innocents that look up to the players turning them ignorant as well.
The BYU volleyball player might have heard something that sounded like a song she listens to often in her head and just pointed out the first white mentally challenged person she could saw as he probably sounded close enough to the rap artist in the song.

Kids that get their lives ruined over rapping lyrics need to realize rap is shitty “music” and not listen to it in the first place.
And in situations like this where it’s a kid trying to act cool and urban they need to realize there’s nothing cool about trying to emulate that culture.

All in how you say it I guess. White kids who grow up with close black friends are really at risk. It’s become such a common phrase that they don’t even have awareness to the sensitivity. They sing all of the songs and speak the same slang.

Technically, and I am not condoning or saying she is right, she used the slang word and not the actual racial slur. The same word used in rap music on every radio station and on music videos

Absolute cringe fest how kids have been bombarded with that culture through TV, movies, and social media that they try to emulate it and be a part of it. While females are a lost cause from top to bottom.
