He’s easily the starter at SS if he only just replicates what he did in 2021. He’s that much of a defensive upgrade over Thompson.

If Thompson takes another jump at the plate like he did this season and hits around .300 Jay Johnson won't sit him. That has never been his MO, to go defense over offense.

He won’t have to sit him. He will slide Thompson over to 2B just like he did when he slid Doughty over to SS this season.

No one has said he is going to sit but he isn’t going to play SS as long as Young can hit over his weight.

Only because I just looked it up:

Thompson cut his K% from like 23% to about 16%, which is pretty incredible improvement. He raised his OPS over 100 points year over year. He had 10 more hits overall and 7 more extra base hits in only about 20 more plate appearances. He struck out 7 fewer times, but walked 15 more times than he did the season before.

It'll be tough to make quite as substantial a jump again, but I think the biggest jump will come in XBH. He hit more HRs as a freshman than he did as a soph, but they were pretty much all pull side. He started using more of the field as a soph and went crazy on doubles. I think he will still hit a similar amount of doubles but increase his HRs with some added strength. If he further cuts his K rate, holy shite, watch out.

Don’t sleep on Thompson. Kid has the tools to be very special. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see him again at short next year. He’s defense got better as the season went on. It’ll be a Young/Thompson battle with the loser shifting to 2B. Young is a huge sign for quality depth or starter at SS if Thompson can’t figure it out.

No. If you want to see that, do that yourself. I'm not taking requests. I look up what interests me.

We all know he had a rough year fielding.

His bad is solid though.

But I don’t think the 2022 version of Thompson is holding off the 2021 version of Young.

We gotta see who we get this season.

He also led the nation in strike outs with those 16 hr

He still slugged .559 and had an OPS over .900. All I was pointing out is that it is ridiculous to say he never hit well at Vandy. 2022 was not very good, so there’s reason for concern. He was also a top prospect coming out of HS and had a great year in 2021, so there’s also cause for optimism. I guess we’ll see which version shows up in 2023.

We're just ignoring that Young was pretty shite at the plate last season?

Be patient. Dude hasn’t yet learned the art of HBP from the master.

All these transfers are exciting as hell, but I keep wondering if the other SEC schools are getting similar transfers.

I don’t read the news about Arkansas, Ole Miss, State, etc., so I don’t know if they are also bringing in top talent from other schools.

Some are getting one big name and a couple of decent guys. I don't think anyone is even close to getting as many big names as us. Jay is a big game hunter.

Fall scrimmages are going to be very interesting this year with all the position battles to sort out. Also, I'm looking forward to seeing the new pitchers.
