I like the people who rail against launch angle as if it's anything more than a measurement.

At no point did I rail against it.

The shift explains a lot of that. Not all of it, but a lot of it.

The pitching revolution over the last decade does too.

higher velo has always equaled lower batting averages. throw in that jumping so much, advanced scouting to allow things like the shift to take away whole sides of the field, advanced pitch design, advancements in calling pitches based on advanced scouting.....not to mention fielders on average are faster than every before and have more range and you have the perfect storm for lower BA.

now the tech and training in hitting is finally catching up, but they had almost 2 decades of being completely stagnant to make up for

Ted Williams literally wrote the book on this stuff in the 60s.

exactly...all the hitting revolution is....is the use of Williams science and more advanced tech.

its like people who rail against HLP...when the best hitters the last 75 or more years have hit like that. just have the tech to measure things now

I would buy that for singles and would like to see a study if one exists.

What?

The statistics are the study. It's the whole reason MLB restricted the shift last season.

I finder it harder to believe for doubles although defensive positioning techniques have improved

Why is that harder to believe?

Outfielders shift just as much, if not more.

Figured that was aimed at me because 77 went on about launch angle as if I had attacked his child when I didn't say a word about it either way

because you dont seem to understand LA or you are being intentionally dense about it.

as far as study on the shift...go look at number of singles in the game last year and before the shift became prominent vs the main shift years of the 2010s

So we aren't supposed to cut down on the ball like my coaches told me my entire life?

Right. Pitchers were always taught to get guys to hit it on the ground to induce groundouts.

So obviously hitting coaches were....teaching guys... to hit it... on the ground?

I understand what it is and the reason behind it. But it has not delivered on singles or xbh like you say it is meant to, only homers

Shift was banned last year. Singles went up slightly from 2022, doubles and average up slightly, homers up tremendously.

Only one that makes sense to me is Braswell and slide Milam over to short.

As much as I like my NM guy I can't recall the last time I saw a 5'6" - 5'7" guy playing shortstop for LSU if ever, he makes one of my favorite all time Tigers 2B Mike Fontenot (who doesn't get enough love on this board) look like a giant in comparison. I do believe Milam is going to lock down 2B, dude is already starting to live up to Jay's accolades.

So there's your study.

I'm not sure what you don't understand.
