So there's your study.
I'm not sure what you don't understand.
That the numbers say exactly what I've been saying, that there's more of a focus on homers than singles/doubles and that's the way baseball has been moving for 20 years? I've spent the entire thread saying this

You can write down what T-Bob & Hester know about baseball on a match stick

You realize OBP is included in home runs right? Swinging at a higher launch angle against a defense that isn't shifted towards your hitting tendencies increases your OBP and your home runs. However, you can defend balls that are hit in play, you can't defend a homer outside of a robbery on a wall scraper. So of course, with hitters focusing on launch angle, homers are going to go up -- because hitters are finally hitting the ball correctly.
With the shift becoming a prominent thing over the last 10-15 years, OBP went down, because a shite ton more balls put in play that didn't leave the yard, regardless of how well they were barreled, found a glove. It's why with the restrictions to the shift this past season, you saw singles, doubles, and yes, OBP, increase in just one year.
It's not that complicated.

Forgive Thib. He’s as good at understanding baseball as he is hitting a golf ball. Ask him about beer and cigs though and he’ll give you a complete history of both industries.

quote:You’re really going to blow some minds of the “they teachin launch angle” group with this. Even Ben McDonald mentions this incessantly and it’s clear he either doesn’t understand it either or does an exceptionally poor job of explaining it. Every batted ball has a launch angle.
attack angle

yep, every swing has distance in zone, attack angle, vertical bat angle, bat speed at contact, hand cast distance and connection score
every ball contacted has exit velo and launch angle
all of these things matter and should be measured because they matter on how you hit the ball and where you hit the ball and you can use the data to make swing corrections over time to slowly increase your chances of getting a hit.
its not complicated its just baseball fans are dumb AF for the most part.

Well I’ve always said it one way. Making me change is rude. Check yourself.

Correct, you don't get extra obp for hitting a HR though

Homers went up a lot more than singles, doubles or OBP from 2022 to 2023. You would see that if you looked at the link posted. It's in plain black and white.
You all keep saying it's not that complicated but the stats paint the exact picture of what's going on

You're an imbecile.

Explain how. We've eliminated the shift. It does not exist. We've made singles and doubles easier to obtain
Homeruns increased at a much faster pace. This is one year to the next, not a decade of difference. Eliminating the shift should've had a much larger impact if that was the reason for not keeping up with homers, right?

The shift still exists, it's just more restricted.
