Yeah (some) people are focusing on OBJ, the reason for the penalties is definitely the Vadal Alexander stuff I'd say. A booster paying a player's father for a no-show job is way worse than what OBJ did.

Basketball sanctions should be less whatever they may be. Football is less of a hit than I was expecting.

Worried about the basketball program...it appears they indeed separated the penalties, so I'm guessing the basketball sanctions will be worse.

The two are distinguishable. With football, the evidence of payments to Alexander's family came out in the the criminal trial of Funes. It happened. OBJ was on camera giving LSU players money. The evidence of those two "violations" were pretty clear.

With Wade, not so much. The wiretap tape that we've all heard exist. Wade is generally talking about making an "offer" to a player not named (though we know that discussion was about Smart). To date, nothing else concrete has come out that any such transaction occurred between Smart and Wade and/or a booster. Whereas there was a clear "paper trail" with the football stuff, that doesn't appear to be the case with basketball based upon what has been report.

That's not to say there isn't one in basketball. Or that the wiretap isn't enough in and of itself to levy some degree of sanctions against Wade/LSU. Or even that the NCAA doesn't have additional, more firm evidence against Wade/LSU that we don't know about. But evidence of the exchange of benefits is basketball seems to be (at this point) far less firm than that in football.

EDT: Not "trial" (he pled guilty). But financial records the DOJ had in support of their case against Funes

I think we should be proactive and take a post season ban this year

(So we don’t give up 50 to NC State)

Exactly.

It's a little weird though, because we know he (Funes) paid other players relatives well after their career. This was less about a benefit to a particular player and more about a way for Funes to launder money. Alexander just happened to still be playing when his relative was doing this.

LSU TAF is Bradley Dale Peveto of collegiate athletic organizations. Straight garbage work by the TAF as usual.

It's actually the best time to do it. We're losing scholarships we wouldn't be able to fill anyway with the signing caps.

So we ban OBJ (for giving cash to some players who were done playing for LSU) but not Ryan Clark.

Good job, great effort LSU.

You don't give up 8 scholarships for an ex player handing out money after the season ends to players going pro. You do get that and worse for paying a players father.

But does anyone think Chase or Shelvin got some of those skins from Odell? Maybe opting out kept LSU from being put on probation.

The shitty thing about this is John Paul wasn't running a scheme to specifically pay player's families. He was running a scheme to enrich himself where he stole money and then ran that through a person (they kept a cut) and then back to himself. JP was not the LSU bag man, he was the guy who devised a scheme to steal money for himself and layer it with anybody he could. Paying players is child's play. JP is in federal prison in Indiana . They don't through you in federal prison for breaking amateur sports rules.

Crap like this is 100% why this country needs to abandon the NCAA. All these "amateur" rules are ridiculous & not created nor enforced in a world that resembles reality.

Has anyone noticed the billboard off I-10 practically at the OLOL exit that indicates LSU and OLOL relationship.
