Yeah
The payments to Alexander and Davey's family had nothing to do with LSU football. It was well after they had finished at LSU.
Don't get me wrong, it's still a bad look but JP's crime was that he was too nice and willing to help those in times of need.

If the NCAA allowed players to be paid, boosters would still pay players under the table to come to their program.

I personally think self-imposing scholarships for the OBJ idiocy is idiotic as well, but I understand with how assanine the NCAA is. It was a dumb-arse stunt in front of people and wasn't some major benefit that LSU was trying secretly give players (though we know that happens with all of these teams anyway with boosters, etc). It was dumb and I think they collected all of the money back anyway. Penalties should be for institutions really trying to get over in a systematic way. OBJ is just an attention whore.

Because you have a state full of coonasses and cajuns with a shrimp boat captain who runs LSU's team. I mean, you have Destroya running NO, JBE running the state, and a a bighead cajun running LSU's team. Not exactly a lot of bright people here when it comes to leadership positions.
