But Lester and others said JJ doesn't care about defense.

Lester says a lot of things I don't really give much credence to. Of course, I say a lot of things people should give much credit to.

JJ's teams historically have not been great defensively. He obviously realized this was a major problem and put more of an emphasis on it. Both can be true.

Luck.

I bet this changes soon, and rapidly. Getting White off third, and replacing him with Nippolt was a big help. Thompson has sprayed the ball a bit but hasn't gotten an error yet. And pitching has reduced the number of chances.

If you told me we’d be 33rd by end of the year, I’d take it.

So it's the coach's fault when we play bad, but not his fault when we play well? Good to know.

An only one error from our starters. Riley Cooper with 1. Gavin Guidry with 1 and Morgan with 1

Crunched numbers last night on the team’s out bresakdown:

45% K’s
33% Fly outs
21% ground outs

I’m curious as to how this translates once the completion improves. As it stands the defense has not been tested much yet. Low leverage games for the most part. A lot of strikeouts & fly outs.

These are 5 things I think we know about the defense :

1) Jordan Thompson’s confidence is back. He has looked smooth & confident & has made difficult plays.

2) Brady Neal has had no issues handling the staff & the running game. He is advanced beyond his years.

3) if Tre Morgan has to play LF, the 1B full-ins have been adequate. Jones looks comfortable receiving the ball, being a former catcher plays a big role in that. The footwork will come, but he has gotten a little twisted at times. He looks good tracking fly balls. If Beloso has to play there, he has shown high competence in the past. He did not see a ton of time in the field since his knee injury last year, however.

4) Dugas has done admirable. The backhand play vs Texas went beyond the capability Johnson painted this offseason. Even with him, if he continues to hit, they will take him just bring average.

5) Jobert still proves to be somewhat of an issue. Even with his new body, it is clear he is not really comfortable in the OF. He is slow to track balls & had the big mis-play in round rock. Like Dugas, they will fit him in if he hits, but he has struggled even against poor pitching recently.

There it is to circle and defend his constant bashing of JJ and the team defense when it was really ALL Thompson and others that played SS. That doesn’t include mental errors last year.

To be fair we have put in a lot of arms cause we have big leads. If you look at the main group of arms who will contribute the most they have very good numbers. shite between Skenes, Floyd and Little opponents are only hitting .107 against those 3. I have been very impressed with our pitching thus far. Bryce Collins is the only one that has really disappointed me thus far.

It wasn’t all Thompson. Cade Doughty may have been worse, who was only playing 2B because he had to let Berry play 3B. Who was terrible in the OF and below average at 3B. Catcher was a mess, too. Pearson

Johnson literally admitted to the overall defense being an issue last year. He recommitted this year to improving. I believe he coached the infield personally
