Billy Sr. was supposedly one of the main people behind the scenes who helped force him out).
In that case my appreciation for Billy Cannon just went up.

I distinctly remember John Williams in a Cutlass 442. Maybe he got two cars. He was good enough.

I saw BCJ and Broadmoor play against Istrouma and Elton Veals
Elton ended up at Tulane. It's legendary among my friends that when Elton was asked about his preseason goals he said, "I tinks I's gonna win da Heisman."

Yeah Richardson was QB on the ‘86 Broadmoor team and he graduated ‘87
He did everything for that team. Kick, punt, pass, and mostly run. Knocked my hs out of the playoffs his SR year.
My brother was the opposing QB and also went on to play college, so I was at the game. On one play in particular, it was 4th and G inside the 5, and Bucky tried to score in The Longest Yard fashion.
Play must have taken 25 seconds. Back and forth all over the field, and he ended up getting tripped up at the 40. LOL

He probably didn't want to have to try to fill his dad's shoes as a mythic Heisman winner at LSU.
Mythic?

He was a beast in high school.
He said Billy Jr was an absolute freak and he felt legitimately bad for the other players. Said he sounded like a thoroughbred taking off when he would field a punt

I graduated from Acadiana in 1980. I recall people saying that he drove a new Trans Am to A&M. Also recall that Johnny Hector chose A&M over LSU the year before. Same story went around about him. Coincidentally, both of these guys finished second in rushing in their respective senior years to the same back, Junius Dural. Junius went to LSU but never really performed to expectations. Broke his collarbone in his freshman year, I think that affected his psyche from then on.
Good job, I was going to post about Johnny Hector, New Iberia, and him going to A&M the year before. Texas A&M 2 years in a row signed the best player in Louisiana. Coach Mac not signing Hector and Cannon, were 2 big additional nails in a coffin to his being let go after 79 season. Had he signed those 2 guys in 78 and 79, both NFL guys, could have changed his tenure.

Your obsession with this is kind of creepy.

Jr. played and excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track including all-state in football.
By 1980 he was creating his own little legend around BR. He served his genetics well and he was a fabulous athlete in his own right.

I still want to know if the driver who killed the girl on Indian Mound before 84 MSU game was ever caught?
My best recollection is that he got probation or something. This is going way back but I don't think we had a vehicular homicide statute on the books back then that tied drunk driving to homicide.
I think I also heard that the driver got some weird brain condition and died a while back.

Junius Dural
He is a doctor now. About 5 years ago I had a concussion and they took me to the ER to make sure I was good to go. I was wearing a LSU shirt. Sure enough, Junius Dural is my doctor. I didn’t know it was him obviously, but he started talking to me about how he was a Tiger, showed me pictures and messages between him and his former teammates.
It helped me stay awake and coherent,

In the late 70’s early 80’s the Rube twins dominated Sharp road park.

Wow this thread is a blast from the past.
The Rube twins were the best athletes of my age. Shane's suicide is something I still can't understand.
That being said, they were not on BCJs level. He had the same pedigree as his dad. I also recall many of us younger kids thinking Billy Jr. was just flat out mean.

This really is a blast from the past and I'm sure I know several of you.
BC Jr. (BHS 1980) was arguably the best athlete to come out of BTR over 2-3 decades. I saw him hit a homerun over the left field wall at Alex Box that never got 25 feet off the ground. He was a man among boys, and at A&M, he was a linebacker who returned punts. I don't buy the "he didn't want to follow his dad's footsteps at LSU" thing for a minute. That dude was a badass. He wasn't scared of anything. I think, as some said, he just got a better deal there.
Bucky (BHS 1987) was good people, a natural athlete with heart who became a legend in Texas.
The Rubes (Belaire 1984) seemed two years older than everybody else all the way through high school. Played with them and against. It was more fun playing with.

Topi, great story about POC, you & I definitely ran in a similar circle. I played football at Centreville Academy & we competed against PA. Won state my Jr. year behind a 235 lb. tailback named Robert DeLee, later a TE at LSU. Coach used me as his tackling dummy since he outweighed me by 90 lbs. LOL.
Had buddies that went to SWJC in Summit, & we hit all the beer joints in Pike County & surrounding towns on weekends I was home. Back then, drinking age was 18 & there was no such thing as open container laws. Was home visiting from LSU one weekend & got pulled over for speeding by a MS Highway Patrolman. Had just busted open a Miller Lite tall boy & had it sitting in the cup holder beside me.
Not only did I not get field sobriety checked, I got off with just a verbal warning to be careful.
My how times have changed...and hate like hell that we lost Bo Rein before he ever coached a down at LSU.

I use to drive by Billy Cannons house everyday on Sherwood Forest on my way to work. Had an LSU flag and an Aggie flag hanging outside and a bunch of counterfeit cash buried in the back yard. Crazy days.

There have been rumours that Billy Sr. always wanted to go to A&M
He sounded wild. Do you think he would've preferred being in the Aggie Corps (compulsory then), or running the streets of Baton Rouge and New Orleans all night long?
