I can tell you for a fact that Jack Lamabe was still recruiting Billy Cannon Jr. to play baseball at LSU in late May 1980. That is when me and my LSU roommate my went on our recruiting trip to LSU. We went to lunch at Phil’s Oyster Bar and it was us, Coach Lamabe and Billy Cannon Sr. and part of the conversation was about Jr. playing baseball at LSU. I can’t recall football ever being discussed.

You must have played baseball with Warren and Pat countz.

Wasn't Kevin Darouse the same age as Billy Cannon Jr? Kevin played at Tara High School against Billy. Kevin's sister lived next door to me in Denham Springs.

It actually makes more sense having a HS kid come out to batting practice with your phenom young pitcher than having a grown man come out. This seems reasonable to me. You’re just being a dick.

I thought they were pretty close to the same age so the kid was not Kevin. Both Kevin and the kid could have been called "smoke."

Who else was on that Istrouma team?

I am unfamiliar with that team. My brother did take me to a game at the end of the season - must have been a playoff game since I was not playing. He was telling me that Cannon was going to be a phenom when he got to LSU.

I was amazed - Cannon did it all - running kicking tackling = never saw anything like it in my experience playing for a less than mediocre Class A school in Vernon Parish.

Wonder if he’s still duck hunting.

Don;t know about Rabb, but the Cannons had deer leases in the same area around Junction TX that my brother and I idid - saw them several times at a restaurant in Junction. during hunting season.

I just read Junction Boys again about Beat Bryant and his Texas AM teams. Great book and a great area. I’d live there if I could.
