this narrative needs to die. She had a huge following before coming to LSU. Obviously coming to LSU helped but she wouldve still been a social media star no matter what.

Maybe, but there's no way to really know that. There's a gymnast at Southern Connecticut State University that has millions of followers as well. But that's doesn't really have anything to do with her argument either. Lets say Livvy makes $4 million a year and if she went to ULL, she would only make $1.5 million a year. If this settlement is only offering her $50k, she still lost out on a ton of money.

Can’t wait for all these kids to pay taxes and see what the real world is about.
In fact, legal NIL is the first time many of these kids have paid taxes in their lives. They sure as shite weren't when they were paid in cash and purple chips from L'Auberge.

Let all the minor sports whine and bitch
It will be their sports that get cut as they all want to be greedy and get their share off the backs of football and basketball

it went through the roof based on her looks.
there are plenty models out there that made it without a school’s popularity pushing them.

Louisiana is trying to pass a bill where NIL money is exempt from state tax
I think the issue is that other states have already passed this, so Louisiana is trying to compete with those states.
I agree they should not be exempt, but this is where we are. Continued craziness.

. The settlement would offer $2.8 billion in damages to players who couldn’t earn NIL money before the NCAA changed its rules in 2021.
See I think this entire thing is stupid. I know you can file a suit for damn near anything but this makes no sense to me. These people want to get back paid for benefits that didn't exists before 2021.

Dunne then went on to say that the website to sign up for the settlement didn’t work when she first started using it. Then, she wasn’t able to see how much she would receive unless she opted in—which she wasn’t sure she wanted to do
Now if this is true, it is sketchy as hell. Sounds some Nancy Pelosi Obama care bullshite. You have to sign up in order to see what is in it.

First, ULL doesn't have gymnastics. 2nd, it was stated that if she was allowed to make money from her social accounts before NIL, she could have made 1 million.
She could have gone to any gymnastics school and made the same amount of money. I'm glad she choose LSU.

This right here is what people aren't understanding.
She didn't lose booster money.
She lost social media and modeling money. She wasn't able to get ad revenue money for her content. She wasn't able to accept money for the photo shoots she did. It didn't matter if she was representing LSU at the time or not.
Prior to NIL changes, student athletes were completely disallowed from earning income outside of an standard 9-5 job.
Look at YouTube star Deestroying with over 6 million subscribers. He was a scholarship kicker at UCF but was running a kicking / football related YouTube channel with no affiliation to UCF. The NCAA stepped in and suspended him indefinitely from NCAA sanctioned activities for accepting YouTube ad revenue. They offered to reinstate him, but he would have to delete his YouTube channel and either return or donate every penny earned from YouTube. He decided to keep his channel and give up football.
Thats the type of thing Livy Dunn is objecting about.

Dunne understands economics pretty well, I’d say based on her deals.

Nothing brings out old angry boomers like a dunne thread that either want to argue a) she’s an attention whore or b) she’s not that hot
It’s odd
It’s odd

So where is the $2.8 billion supposed to come from? The NCAA? And where does the NCAA get it from?

She could have just quit the team and collected her 4 million a year?

The back pay thing is really strange, no possible way to figure out much they did get paid…illegally…how much they were ‘worth’…and then negotiate the difference to pay them.
Posted on 4/7/25 at 6:32 pm to BigBrod81
The very fact that they are giving them retro payments is remarkable and then she isn't satisfied with the amount. Why didn't she retain a lawyer from the very first? She certainly has enough money for it. If it is a class action suit then everyone knows the lawyers get the money. Apparently she did not file a separate suit just for her. And who is paying this retro money? So weird a world we live in with justice being a word no one really believes in or the roofers and ditch diggers of the world would get a lot more money.

She’s obviously carrying the torch for all female athletes who are eligible. She and a few others can bring light of this to the masses . It’s admirable to do it but the visuals are bad for her. I don’t think she cares about that and will greatly benefit as the carrier of said torch……
