LINK (from tigerdroppings)

quote:

Linebacker Jabril Cox spoke to the media this week and evaluated some of the defensive struggles this season and talked about how the Tigers need to get back to the LSU standard.

Cox said that issues are not the scheme or how defensive coordinator Bo Pelini is giving it to the players. He added that they have simplified things and that the extra week off has helped the younger players “tremendously.”

All that quote shows me is the players and coaches have not lost each other

You think it would be better or a plyer to say "Yeh, its the coaches fault"

anyone who has watched the games and has seen wide open wrs streaking down the field would know that no defense called allows for that. The tackling has been atrocious also. The one thing the defense has done is get turnovers. I expect to see dramatic improvement this week

I bet I can find a player saying the exact same thing about the defense and Aranda last year

Cox doesn't blame him, but I 1000% blame him.

“There is nothing wrong with the scheme or how they present it”

“But we did simplify it and that made it easier for the younger players we have to play”

I think There is a lot of things wrong with our defense.

Youth and inexperience is one of them.

If you don’t scheme towards you players that’s on the coaches too.

Obviously the defense has been awful in 2/3 games. I’m just hoping for improvement as the year goes on.

It’s both. Playing Man against State constantly was dumb. Not getting play calls in against Mizzou caused us to get raped.

But no didn’t make Darren Evans slow. Bo didn’t make Jay Ward confused on every play. Bo didn’t make Damone Clark play on his heels constantly.

When Missouri and Mississippi State are buttfricking you to 600+ yards there’s more than enough blame for both the coaches and players

Agreed. I expected Issues. Losing that much talent and changing schemes. I didnt Think we had the DL for it. Still don’t.

Honestly, I there are some head scratching moves.

I dont Inherently dislike what Bo wants to do. We’re a man team. We will always be a man team. But I think His assignments are a bit off. Clark is maybe more of a thumper and is getting dragged out into coverage way too after.

Stevens is playing away from the LOS too often.

players certainly aren't up to the usual LSU standards, but this is historic awfulness we are talking about.

Confusion on defense can make them look silly against SEC athletes. This week will tell a lot. If they can’t figure it out after having 2 weeks to simplify and work, then they ain’t getting it anytime soon.

So Bo’s scheme of man coverage was too complex?
exactly. every player on the team understands man coverage. the db's were just letting state wr's run around freely. i get that ward was hurt. i get that evans and ricks are brand new to this level. but i can't understand flott who played significant minutes last year. and he's been inconsistent since then too.

stingley made a huge difference in week 2. ricks is catching on quickly.

the front 7 in the mizz game were atrocious against the run. lb's are just not in the right place, they weren't hustling to the point of attack, they were missing tackles and they weren't shedding blocks. huge disappointment.

i think there's enough blame to go around and that certainly includes the coaching staff. the defense is an absolute mess. someone mentioned '08 and i felt that same way exactly during the state game and again watching mizz. there certainly is plenty of talent and staff resources to get it fixed and i hope the staff starts to find a winning formula. my gut tells me we're going to see improvement throughout the season. i think o can push the right buttons. there was just too much turmoil for the tigers to be a well oiled machine right out of the gate

So will that be the breaking point, where you start making daily fire BP threads, like you did for Aranda the entire season last year?

My guess is you will do one of two things after this week:

1- the defense will play good enough to win against a shitty SC team, and you will proclaim that all the problems are fixed.

2- the defense will play poorly again, and we will get to see another weeks of spinning excuses up from you.

Well who did we lose from the defensive other than Queen and Vincent and Shelvin to make them that much worse?? Our players that have another year under their belt have regressed. I’m sorry that’s coaching. They are obviously confused on their assignments or the opposing teams wouldn’t have players running wide open because it’s not a talent issue.
