I was around in 2008 when Saban returned to Tiger Stadium. But I was young. Old enough to watch the game and know what’s going on in the game but didn’t know about the media and storylines and all that.

I’m legitmately concerned about Kiffin’s well-being heading into Oxford. Media making him out to be the devil, training every non-LSU fan to hate his guts. Was there this level of animosity and hatred from LSU fans towards Saban in 2008? Obviously we booed him pretty hard and were pissed he went to Bama, but there’s no way it got this nasty and personal like it’s getting with Kiffin now right?

Edit: I realize he didn’t go straight to Bama from LSU. I know he went to NFL first

Saban left LSU and went to the NFL. While people were disappointed in that, it is understandable. When he returned to college, Bama happened to be the job he got.

Kiffin left Ole Miss for LSU. Their feelings are WAYYYYY more hurt.

After Skip foolishly turned down Saban’s offer to return to LSU. Should’ve had the vision and balls to fire Les Miles.

The difference between 2008 and now is that social media exists. He and every LSU fan will be cursed to high heavens. Ole Miss fans will likely throw things at him on the field and at the team busses the moment they arrive from Tupelo.

I expect some fire alarms to be pulled in the team hotel. The guys may not get much sleep the night before. I'd almost consider flying in the day of the game.

people are actually talking in circles and want Sankey to move the game to a neutral site for safety purposes. If that ever happened every Old Piss fan's head would explode. It would truly be an "off the top rope" moment.

I'm sure most true LSU fans were quite disappointed when Saban went to Bama.

I'm sure most of the country, outside Ole Miss fans, could care less about Lane and LSU. Miss State is probably getting a kick out of this.

In the midst of a playoff run and potential National Championship. It's SO different.

They finally get a home, night game because of Kiffin and they could lose it because of him too. They would torch some vehicles. It won’t happen though.

I’m expecting all the hostility for that game.

You forget that he does hot yoga. If they value their lives, Ole Miss fans will leave him be.

The angst towards Saban didn't really get too bad until he started winning at Alabama. People were disappointed that he left for the NFL but i dont remember anyone really being mad at him for it. Lane started getting shite for his decision ( or lack thereof ) even before the egg bowl was played. It only got worse from there.

Interesting trivia question - the first time Saban returned to Tiger Stadium was actually as head coach of the Dolphins when the Saints played some games there after Katrina.

When Saban came back to Tiger Stadium to coach the Dolphins against the Saints after Katrina, he was treated like a hero.
When he came back as coach of Alabama, he was treated like the villain that he was. He was cursed and jeered, but he was not in danger of being assassinated or anything like that.
I was at both games.
