Saban didn't leave LSU to go to Alabama.

I think he will be fine, but there will be some fights between fans. I'm going but I'll be with some ole miss fans, and I know how to control myself.

Kiffin left Ole Miss for LSU. Their feelings are WAYYYYY more hurt.
They are the spurnedest of the spurned.

Skip just got fed up with Saban annually seeking pro jobs. This wasn't just the Dolphins position, it was an every year occurrence. But for Skip to hire Saban back, he would have had to fire Coach Miles, who was coming off a 10 win season. Saban had several yrs to return to LSU if he really to return. Don't forget, Saban announced that he was going to the Fins on Christmas Eve, at the bowl game site. He never returned to Baton Rouge to talk to the team. Skip wasn't that much of an A.D. but he was not at fault for Saban leaving.

Skip needed to out his ego aside and realize Saban sewed his royal oats in the pro game at it was over.
Skip was wearing the AD hat then and there was plenty enough games to tell Miles wasn’t Saban and would eventually fail.
Joe Dean listening to the players for Archer when Spurrier wanted the job and passing on Saban’s return cost us at least 20 dominant years and multiple SECs and Nattys.
Horrible ADs lead to horrible results at LSU.

Don't worry about Kiffen in Oxford. Worry about him 3 year from now when the LSU faithful can't run him out of Baton Rouge ,a la Dinardo, fast enough. This cats really going to let us down.

Wayne Hyzinga who owned the Marlins then the Dolphins was a big Florida donor; he owned Blockbuster. He kept upping the offer to Saban; last gem was he told him he could have 2% of the sale if he sold the team while Saban was head coach. The Dolphins were worth 800 million at the time. Saban had changed him mind during bowl week. Wayne came in with a half million moving expense paid directly to Terry. Wasn’t much we could do after that.

Not even close. Lane is going to get a pregame "welcome" back video.

They ought to give him a standing ovation. He left that program in the best shape it’s been since before OM was desegregated.
“ Lane Kiffin spent six seasons in charge of the Ole Miss football program (2020-25), tallying an overall record of 55-19 during his time in Oxford.
Kiffin led the Rebels to unprecedented heights during his tenure, which included six consecutive bowl berths, four 10-win seasons, and several of the most statistically significant campaigns in the storied past of Ole Miss football. Kiffin was the first Ole Miss coach in program history to lead the Rebels to three consecutive 10-win seasons.
Kiffin's Rebel teams broke into the national top-10 in at least one poll in each season from 2021-25, the first such streak at Ole Miss since Rebel legend John Vaught's hallowed teams from 1961-64. In that same stretch since 2021, Kiffin won 50 games, which ranked third among all SEC schools behind Georgia and Alabama, and includes a superb 27-3 home record. Since 2023 alone, Kiffin's teams were 21-1 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Kiffin’s 55 wins put him third in Ole Miss history, and he became the fastest in program history to 50 wins -- doing so in 68 games, four fewer than Vaught. Kiffin (.740) and Vaught (.745) rank as the lone Rebel coaches all-time to have a win percentage of at least .700 (in at least 30 games coached).”

The angst towards Saban didn't really get too bad until he started winning at Alabama. People were disappointed that he left for the NFL but i dont remember anyone really being mad at him for it. Lane started getting shite for his decision ( or lack thereof ) even before the egg bowl was played. It only got worse from there.
The hate is “it’s Bama” - those inbreds didn’t deserve the Saban success

Two different situations.
But I guess it helped that LSU was the one that got away for Saban. Lane will never look back at Ole Miss that way.

We should have! I’ve never “hated” Saban, I respect the hell out of him and where he placed LSU football, which remains today.
And I mostly say OM should applaud him in jest. He crushed them just when they thought they were turning the corner. He’s set them up well, but deep down they have to know that is at peril. They’ll likely never be able to truly appreciate his tenure because of how it ended. I get it.

Would have been and could have been an awesome reunion with one of the most savage firings of all time after back-to-back 11-2 seasons. But Skip made the ego decision 99% of people would make.

Saban ruined 2004 Christmas.
The end.
The end.
