Obviously Kelly is prolonging making any decisions regarding his defensive staff, almost as if Kelly is hoping House suddenly decides to on his own to move on. Am I reading this wrong?

Maybe he has already made decisions about the Defense and now is the time to make decisions about the offense.

This is a quote from his presser relative to the full evaluation of the defensive staff.

quote:

"I wanted to finish up recruiting. I wanted to finish up the season. I felt it was most important that we maintain continuity through the bowl game."

We will all have to wait and see what he does.

I agree. People think acting like Lincoln Riley and firing a coach midseason is some kind of alpha move, when it is actually counter-productive to a long-term strategy.

Kelly makes too much money to to wait and hope things happen so he can move forward with his plans. He's going to do what he wants on his timeline. "Hope" will play no part in it. Now you may not like the decisions he makes, but he's not hoping with his tail tucked in the corner

Coaches don't want to burn bridges and obviously conversations have been had between he and House but if you don't think that HCs leave coaches on staff when they both know the end is near so they can stay employed but continue to pursue employment without lapse then you're crazy.

House is going to the NFL, BK knows this and he'll keep him on staff and give him an opportunity to find something else before having to fire him.

He might not make any moves until February. Just accept that and then you’ll be pleasantly surprised if he does it sooner.

While I'm no fan of BK, this ^^^ is the correct answer. He may be targeting an NFL positional coach and needs to wait until the season is complete before making a move.

Who knows what's gonna happen but there's lots of hinting going on that House isn't being relieved of his duties.
Talent is being blamed. Which makes this "retention" not addition strategy even more puzzling. Are they really expecting us to believe that the recruiting class is going to make the difference next season? Following the example shown this season of refusal to play young defenders? We don't have space to add as it is without losing close to 10 kids. Where's the talent influx for next season coming from? One of the 2, House or the returning talent, has to go.

Kelly made sure Polian was set up as well

No, Kelly moved Polian to an off-field job after the season.

Polian found the job at another university after.

Seems like Kelly would have said OBVIOUSLY we need to do something about the DEFENSE! Damn offense looked damn good!

My two cents:

Kelly likes continuity, as most coaches do. He knows he's going to have to hire a new Offensive Coordinator. Even if it's someone already on staff, there will be changes. He will have to oversee those changes.

He knows the defense needs work, but he may opt to work with what he already knows and hope they can make improvements without a total overhaul.

Having two new coordinators may just be too much to deal with to start year 3.

For most LSU fans, “Hope” is all we have that the correct decision will be made.

Try “trust” … as in we trust that Kelly, the head coach who is among the winningest active coaches in the game, will make the best decision for his team. Not necessarily the “correct” decision in the eyes of a bipolar fanbase.

No, that's keeping someone with a good eye for talent in the program.

Maybe so. But I'll tell you what I know we shouldn't have to deal with in year 3, and that's a defense anywhere near as shitty as we watched all year. It's unacceptable to happen once, and if Kelly sticks with the same thing and it happens twice, then the blame falls 100% on him.

I read it as House won’t be the only possible fire. The use of the word “full” meaning everyone (defensively) head is on the block to be fired not just House.

It's "obvious" bc there has been public knowledge of an opening since Denbrock left. There are no other positions open at THIS moment.

He isn't going to come out and say, "House sucks. We will be getting rid of him as soon as possible." That is part of being a professional. You don't tell your next coach that he will be embarrassed if things don't work out.
