To be on par with Saban, Kelly has to win a National championship and put us in the NC conversation every year (not just invited to the playoffs given how many teams are going to be included next year). He might be one defensive staff overhaul away from doing just that. Recruiting needs to be top five every year. We’ll probably miss that target this cycle… but see defensive staff needs.

I don’t think Les or Orgeron should be the bar.

100 percent fact! Kelly is the only coach ever to “rehab “ 5 programs.

1.Grand Valley state
2. Central Michigan
3. Cincinatti
4. Notre dame
5. LSU

Each of these programs was broken and was left in a much better place. Most people don’t remember Notre Dame had a brutal run prior to Kelly and he restored it to a championship contender with brutal academic standards!

Kelly hasn’t won a championship in his entire career. Will he? We will see. I just hope the blaming Coach O bs is over with, undoubtedly some idiot(s) will regurgitate it in the near future and for a few years to come.

Why is it that every time someone posts this you know it is absolutely false?

quote:

Each of these programs was broken

Not all of them

quote:

1.Grand Valley state

THe 5 years before Kelly took over as HC at GVSU

1986 - Record: 9-2 overall, 4-1 league

1987 - Record: 7-4 overall, 4-1 league

1988 - Record: 7-4 overall, 3-2 league

1989 - Record: 11-1 overall, 5-0 league, MIFC Champions, NCAA DII Playoff Appearance

1990 - Record: 10-2 overall, 9-1 league, MIFC Champions, NCAA DII Playoff Appearance

Not broken. Nor did they need rehab.

quote:

2. Central Michigan

Awful, they didn't need rehab, rehab implies they were ever any good. They were never right from what I can tell. They needed someone to get the program built for the first time.

quote:

3. Cincinatti
4. Notre dame

They were mediocre,

For Cincinnati, that wasn't much different than they had been before Kelly got there. Kelly raised the standard and left them in much better shape.

For ND, that mediocrity, the up then down seasons, was not what they were used to. The mediocrity was post-Holtz. That is what Kelly fixed there. And that is the closest parallel to LSU, him bringing a program back to the place it had been just a few years before.

All of that sort of shows how versatile Kelly is as a person in charge of a program. He can do whatever is needed to build, fix, rebuild, or sustain a program.

Kelly needs to beat Alabama at least every other year. A high bar, but this is what it’s going to take to get to the next level, playoffs and SECCG.

I would tend to agree EXCEPT the defense is SOOO bad I’m beginning to lose some faith in his judgement. Here we have a Heisman winning QB and a record setting or near record setting offense and we are not competing for a title of any sort. That is next level bad defense.

I've watched LSU for decades believing we were playing to win a Championship. Didn't realize LSU was just pretending, settling for second was good enough.

Bertman let Saban walk away without even putting up ANY fight at all with Huizenga or effort to keep Nick at LSU; just rolled over and played dead. (A lot like Alleva with Tom Herman)

Rings:
Miles 1
Orgeron 1
Kelly 0

IF and until this changes your statement is false!

The ultimate goal is to win a championship, if some have, and one has not, he can not possibly be better!

Brooks got brain cancer. You can't tell me that helped. There is a correlation with bad DL play and freak injury to a player in the secondary

Kelly is a very good coach imo, and he is putting it all together. Major change needs to happen on defense though, obviously.

I think that's the point.

When Miles was here, the argument was "any idiot could win 10 games at LSU."

Kelly has a chance to do it twice in two tries. (Devil's advocate: win #10 last year was a glorified FCS team in Purdue)

If he's that much better of a coach than O or Miles, then he should win championships that much easier than them.

Now, remember, LSU fans were dunking on UGA in 2018 and 2019 after beating Smart twice in a row, and they were just getting started, so Kelly's story isn't fully written yet. But he has to somehow have a miraculous fix for the defense.

BK picked his own Defensive coordinator and rest of the staff. If Kelly had fired The DC house after one the tigers would have had a national title. Gotta think witj your common sense god gave you. Some coaches are satisfied with mediocrity and some coaches like saban are not satisfied with mediocre results.

By far he is. If he can start getting the recruiting classes in the top 7 then we will have a dynasty. The man can coach no doubt on that.

It’s coach Kelly’s standard.

You can name anyone you want, the goal is to win a championship, and if you can’t get it done, you will be shown the door.
