He’s only in AA because he’s too old for single A at 23yo
He hasn’t hit at any level and they likely want to see if they have anything before cutting ties

He was traded away from the org that drafted him within a year of signing.
He was left unprotected in the minor league portion of the rule 5 draft, which is how the Braves got him.
He's 23 and already a minor league journeyman.

I think the early and eventual success of the big name guys in the college game and their quick rise through the minors bodes well for CBB going forward
First and early second round kids will almost always be inclined to take the upfront money.
The re-organization of the draft and the minor league system being taken over by MLB from MiLB is playing a part in some of these kids' and their advisors decisions

I agree. I think you'll see fewer HS guys going pro each year. But like you said, not from the very top of the market.
College baseball is also going to get older. More guys will be staying for 4 years than before because there are just fewer spots available to start your pro career.
Because college baseball in general will be getting older with slightly less roster turnover, JUCOs will be more stocked than before.
If a kid doesn't have a clear path to starting at a D1 school by their sophomore year, they should probably go JUCO. There are too many missed reps by waiting around when you could be playing 70-75 games a year plus summers. Chances are if you wait around on campus you'll be competing with a JUCO or portal guy that has been playing for 2 years already.

Top prospects that go pro out of high school and out of college as long as they stay on projected trajectory get to the MLB about the same age. The question is would you rather spend those first 3-4 years out of high school living off your signing bonus and getting paid some money while living in busses and hotel rooms in front of no fans or spend those years on a college campus living like a king and now with NIL you at least can make some money.

this is good forcast thank you. May I ask please, you say college baseball will get older but you follow that up by suggesting that kids on the fence after their freshamn seasons should leave college baseball programs.
I already feel bad for late blooming pitchers playing NCAA baseball, if this trend holds true there will be a bunch of pitchers asked to look around after year one. As we have seen great progress is often made between the first and second years at a program and under the same coach. Hypothetically speaking of those who remain at LSU the assumption is that they tore it up as a freshman, a sophomore slump will have us second guessing the departures.

Yeah it really starts to become a “do you want to live off 70k a year in the minors (prorating the signing bonus as if a HS kid won’t blow it right away) or play college ball and hole to get into the top 3 rounds with real signing obey and a shorter runway to the MLB

I may not have been very clear with what I meant. I mean out of high school when choosing where to play as a freshman, if you don't have a clear path to playing time/starting as a sophomore, it's probably better to start your career at a JUCO.
Posted on 7/7/21 at 10:32 am to ProjectP2294
If that is true, more emphasis should be put on recruiting JUCOs.

I feel with NIL these type guys will go to college instead of pros. Probably same money with less headaches and pressure
I was just talking about that. Some of these guys get decent signing bonuses, but they actually get paid very little. At major programs like LSU, I imagine they can make a decent chunk of money in 3yrs.

The players that will have to make tough decisions are going to make more going professional vs staying at LSU
What do y’all really think baseball players are set to earn with NIL
Like lets pretend Landon Marceaux decided he wanted to stay at LSU vs going in the draft.
You are talking about having to make up the +\- $500k he would get to sign pro through NIL and there is no way in hell he has that type of earning power through college baseball, even at a place like LSU.
Posted on 7/7/21 at 1:32 pm to Lester Earl
Even if Marceaux slips to the 5th round he'd be making between $425 and $325 thousand. Just depends on what MLB thinks or how they evaluate him.

Just hope he makes it to campus right now
He’s said numerous times, as did his dad, that he fully plans on going to college/LSU. He seems to be the complete opposite of his older brother who planned on going pro regardless of draft position. His dad mentioned this pretty recently so I really feel like we’ll see him in purple and gold.

He’ll be 19 in a couple of months. He’s not that young

He sounded pretty excited to go to college/LSU today on the radio. He's already a Barstool Athlete from the NIL perspective, and felt pretty cool about that - he doesn't even know what that means yet, but he felt cool about it. He also said himself that he projects as and likes LF.

It’s really hard to go from high school ball to the pros without college in between. Wash out from that route is high as frick
