I want to assume he knows this, but he didn't know the BCS ended in 2013

To any sane person, the governor melting on national media is more concerning than nameless people on a message board bitching about him.
You are really co fused here lol

I will ask again:
If the LSU athletic department had to defund revenue sharing by $8m/year to pay a buyout, would you say they “spent taxpayer money” or “spent state funds” to pay for it?

Where was the governor? Why was he not firing up the masses about paying $50 million dollars of taxpayer money to Franklin?
You dint think the governor told them the state wasnt paying, thats why they refused to answer? Just because he didnt speak openly, doesnt mean he hasnt spoken
Problem in La. is we dont have a prez, nor a trusted AD to do what needed to be done. Or to answer the questions being asked. Its done. Let the process work. Everyone is thankful, and almost all media said it had to be done. Only Landry had the power to do it, at present
LSU will get a new prez and it will flow from there, like usual

Wait wait wait
You actually think the state of Pennsylvania pays for Penn State’s athletics?

This is laughably naive.

It’s already flowing, and would be in the same exact position without Laney’s media tour.
It literally served zero purpose other than to put LSU into the spotlight in a very negative way.

Landry’s saving grace may in fact be that he is TOO stupid for even the people who work for him to take seriously.
Thanks god. If the BOS stands firm, this may turn out alright after all.

the taxpayer is on the contract
How would you propose to remove the taxpayer from the contract, as mentioned in your previous post?
It’s not like it’s directly stated in there that the taxpayer is responsible. LSU is responsible, because LSU is hiring the coach to work for LSU. The only way to get “the taxpayer” out of the contract is to not have LSU named.
I’m genuinely curious what people want to see in a contract to alleviate this “problem”?

And no department or state has ever, in any state, paid a buyout. Ever.

No - this incident will change how LSU, Louisiana and TAF operate long term.
All 3 will come out even stronger though.

This is by far the biggest buyout ever put in a contract by LSU so at some point donors are not gonna pay

Two things can be true at the same time. It may not directly effect tax payers but could still have a negative impact on the university as a whole. You can't tell me a piss poor ran athletic department isnt a burden at some points on a state funded university. See the story about ULL that came out today. And has it been 100% disproven that there wasn't a conflict of interest and some mishandling of some of this stuff by the athletic department? Some people along the way are agreeing with alot of this or it wouldn't be happening like it is.

the governor is allowed to speak about it.
This is America, the governor is free to talk about whatever he wants, just like everybody else. But when he starts talking about shite he doesn't know anything about, he looks like an idiot, just like anyone else. Successful people generally don't want to work for idiots.
Other governors let the people hired to do particular jobs do those jobs and don't interfere. This is the more professional environment successful people prefer to operate in.
But these days, pettiness, childishness and unprofessionalism is the fashion, so this is what we get.

Landry is technically correct but not practically so. Then practically take the taxpayer burden out of the technical contract. Replyreplies3... up vote5
Here’s the one I replied to. There are several others where you say ‘ it’s in ink’ etc
My point is, it doesn’t say the words ‘ the taxpayers are responsible’ so that cannot be taken out.
It’s just that if you ask an attorney who is responsible for the buyout and then you go down the entire cascade you eventually arrive at the taxpayer because LSU is a state entity.
LSU is the responsible party. LSU has many sources of funding but in the end, in a total Armageddon, the final rung in the ladder is the state, i.e. the taxpayers.
But, here’s the kicker. We are discussing buyout.
In the scenario that this would reach that far down the ladder of responsibility— just don’t fire the guy!!
Then there’s no buyout. And if the boosters don’t pay, the athletic department has gone insolvent, the university has gone insolvent, and the state has gone insolvent — losing football games won’t be the biggest issue.
