Freeman was a "continuity hire". It was a gamble that worked out for ND. It's not that much different than the gamble LSU took with hiring Mike Archer, which didn't work out.

I’m not a Kelly fan by any means, but Kelly saved ND and built them back up. A lot of people don’t realize but Freeman hasn’t done anything that Kelly hasn’t done. Kelly has made it to the National Championship game with ND, if Freeman loses this weekend, Kelly would still have done more than Freeman.

In a 12 team playoff you disingenuous asshat. Kelly didn’t have the opportunity to do so. His last year they were ranked 5th.

ND just beat UGA by 2 scores in the Sugar.

Without their starting QB. In the old format, UGA would’ve been left out of the playoffs for that very reason. Stop beating your chest over bullshite

Has he though? Freeman inherited a turn key program. Kelly went to one natty game and made the 4 team playoff 2 other times and had won 10 games 5 years in a row. Freeman appears to be on a path to exceed that but he isn't there yet.

Coach O was fired 1,176 days ago. How many more thousand does BK need to get it right?

Brian Kelly had teams that would have qualified for the playoff.

In a span of 12 years, Kelly didn’t have the chance to beat elite teams while he was at Notre Dame? He didn’t have a chance to win a major bowl game while he was at Notre Dame?

It has to be painful and exhausting defending a mid coach.

I agree and the program was already established. Transfer portal has help him maintain it as well as the schedule.

ND consistently got their doors blown off in big games against elite programs. Kelly was notorious for that and I don’t think anybody here should deny it. In fact, he left and blamed Notre Dame as the reason (shocking, I know, that he made excuses for that as well).

ND just beat UGA by 2 scores in the Sugar. So no, Freeman does not have them “exactly where BK had them.” Freeman has already gotten that monkey off their back.

2024 Georgia with a backup quarterback isn't elite. They had two losses with their starter.

Meh.

The "playoff wins" take is disingenuous, 2024 Indiana/Georgia are far inferior to 2018 Clemson and 2020 Alabama. There's no team even in the field this year that is as good as those two.

ND will lose to Penn State

You can all be upset at the shade that’s being thrown at BK, but Penn state beating ND by 2 TDs isn’t going to happen lol if ND plays the way they’ve been playing, Penn state doesn’t have much of a chance

I dont know if they have relaxed the standards or if you portal in you have college credit so you are accepted, but I see a lot more tattoos and dreadlocks for ND the anytime before. Just saying.

But imagine if Kelly had an ND program with NIL. The rest of CFB would have already forfeited with head coaches like Smart taking early retirements.

That’s not what you were beating your chest over. You said freeman has two playoff wins. All the shite you’re talking about Kelly didn’t experience at ND because the 12 team playoff didn’t exist.

Freeman lost the Fiesta Bowl to Okie state.

You simply can’t be honest and say the new format has benefited ND.
