YES! Of all the guys in the portal, this was the one I was probably most hopeful for. I think with Yeskie working with him, he can be great.

No one is being asked. This is legit competition. They will have to earn their spot on the roster. May the best men get the spots. No one is guaranteed. This is what this new era of college sports has brought about.

This kid is a legit starter. I don't think he's leaving a Power 4 / regional team to come be a bullpen piece here. He pitched 8 innings and limited West Virginia to 3 runs. The same WVU team that was scoring on Anderson and Eyanson. This is a big grab from the portal.

Kansas RHP Cooper Moore commits to LSU

Jul 16, 2025 | 11:10 AM

By Hunt Palmer

The final touches are being put on LSU’s title-defending roster.

Cooper Moore, Kansas’s ace in 2025, committed to Jay Johnson and the Tigers on Wednesday. The right-hander worked 88.2 innings and struck out 85 against just 19 walks. His 3.96 ERA led Kansas’s starters.

Moore is 6-foot-1 and doesn’t feature a blazing fastball, but he worked deep into games for former LSU assistant Dan Fitzgerald in Kansas this season. His fading changeup is his best pitch.

With LSU’s resources, Johnson is hoping for further development from Moore as a key piece on the weekend for the Tigers, perhaps behind Casan Evans who is the odds on choice to the be Friday night starter.

Spot on! CJJ continues to target AND get these guys who can pound the zone. Don't give the other team any free passes.

I realize that we are 11 months away from crowning the 2026 National Champion in baseball, and also that a lot of things have to go right in order for an LSU repeat. However, if Jay & the Tigers can somehow go back to back? The SEC Rant will implode with the thought of LSU winning 3 Nattys in 4 years! Serraneaux, Cajunbama & most of the Longhorns & Aggies will perhaps find another school to troll on a daily basis. It will be epic! LFG!

Didn't we also get Dax Dathe from Angelo State? Dude had 95 Ks this past season. Jay is putting together an elite bullpen.

Moore and Dathe were the aces of their respective schools. One or both have a good chance of being in the weekend rotation with Evans.

Maybe a dumb question but where do the cuts go? It’ll be pretty late in the game to find another team considering other schools will most likely also be trimming by down their rosters as well.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, just seems super shitty for the athletes and it’d be the only sport where you commit to a school, enroll and then are told you don’t have a spot on the team.

Theyll likely be injuries/redshirts. So any parting of ways will likely be a very small number and likely mutual. Also a few guys are still eligible to sign udfa

I love Jay Johnson and how he never takes his foot off the gas. CJJ is an absolute stud and deserves a raise. Greatness never rests. He’s exactly the type of person you want leading your program in every aspect of the game.

I think reasonable people lower their expectations post natty but good grief, this team w this coach, we’re a legit threat to win it all every single year.

In the world of college baseball LSU is the Yankees, Dodgers, etc. A "big market" team with the historic pedigree of success along with more money to spend than just about everyone in the marketplace. That doesn't mean they will win the championship every year (see the Yankees). But it does mean they will have all of the resources to do so each season.

NIL has probably widened the gap. The handful of schools that care about baseball can now "legally" spend more for player. While the schools that don't really care about baseball are probably more apt to spend even less because they have to allocate more resources to football and basketball.

That's not to discredit what Johnson has done, at all. But there are few, if any, places better suited for success than LSU.
