Maybe you’re right and I just want this hire to hit so bad I’m being too critical.

There is no Nick Saban of college baseball that can just come in and dominate anywhere he coaches. There's going to be risk.

And even with Saban he wasn't the lock of the century at the time Bama hired him.

Honestly, the more I'm looking at Schlossnagle the more impressed I am. His track record at TCU is very impressive.

He also was a big part of Tulane's success.

Well that’s a given but shouldn’t we try to minimize it?

not necessarily. Safe picks can be low risk, low reward. I prefer to shoot higher, despite the perceived risk, which I really think is minimal with Vitello.

My assumption is that he will start with some FL guys that he has a recruiting relationship with already and add as many of the best guys from LA and a few from TX until he improves the talent level.

Long term he won't need very many players from the state of Florida if he starts going to Omaha. All of the top LA kids and many from across the country will come to LSU if they know they have a great chance to play in Omaha. Just get the right positions of a few missing pieces to fill in gaps when LA talent has down years.
The issue isn’t identifying or attracting talent from across the country, LSU already does that. The question is can he manage the numbers to take advantage of that interest when to this point he has only had to deal with kids on in state tuition?

Again, maybe he can. But it’s much more complex than just simply finding players and the fact is he hasn’t had to deal with that yet.

I just don't think he's going anywhere. He turned State down a few years ago and I believe Texas before that. I've seen some A&M fans think he's wanting out now because he apparently recently got divorced, but both his kids are also currently students at TCU, so who knows. I think he'd be great, I'm just not real confident he's interested in going anywhere.

This is a Woody hire and he'll probably get the the toppest of dollars. Woodys MO is throwing big money and big name coaches with trophies to their name.

Exactly.

Anything less than O'Sullivan or Schlossnagle would be disappointing.

If Woody is gonna throw Fort Knox at everybody, he needs to deliver another home run hire.

If true frick Sully and Scott!!! You have a coach Vitello 20 years younger

I believe Sully is 52 and Vitello is 42, so that’s 10 years.

I am a Vitello all the way guy and have been for 2 years. His years of recruiting, roster building, and now constant ascent as a HC is enough for me. And it’s more than 1 year.

The history of Florida baseball before Sully was pure mediocrity...especially for being in the state of Florida.

So he's unattached and the kids are in college?

Sounds like Woody needs to work his magic.

Schlossnagle was at Tulane for 7 years. He's got to know this area very well.

Moscona basically saying that O'Sullivan is the guy if you read between the lines. Pretty much just said that Woody has to finish the deal.

3-4 weeks ago, Sully was in the lead.

He’s out is what I’m told.

Even Vitello comes with risk but I'd take him over Sullivan in a heartbeat. He's a way better fit for LSU I think overall. It would also be nice to have a younger guy give energy to the program again because it feels so dead lately at LSU especially past few years. Something I think people overlook was how good Tenn was last year before they canned the season. They had what, 1 loss on the entire season?

5 CWS appearances from 1988-2005 is not mediocrity. They were runner-up at the damn thing 3 years before he got there. That's not medicre either. They were definitely a thorn in our arse constantly in the 90s

Not saying it was. I'm not endorsing or knocking a potential O'Sullivan hire. Just from a rumor mill standpoint, it does fit what Woody does...
