tailgating is dead. I ask myself why I still go thru all the work on Fridays, shopping, packing and stressing out about forgetting something. we used to be along Nicholson sidewalk, one of the first to really get it going. we would have the sidewalks shutdown from people passing by the would just start dancing and such. so LSU shut that down. we moved but most never came back. they really don't care. we may get 1 more year in the free lot before they put up the $$ signs. then 75" hd here is come.

Overall, I think you bring up valid concerns and issues. And I'm sure a lot of people share those same concerns as well. I certainly do and agree with you on most points! Except for the time frame and who the average fan is. I think it started a lot farther back than the last five years but when it started is less important than the fact that it started! And, to say the average fan is a season ticket holder who tailgates and attends a couple of away games each year is a bit presumptuous and narrow minded. How much a person can afford or even how much they chose to spend is no indication of how much of a fan they are. Work schedules, life and health demands sometimes don't allow everyone to share in those activities but they're no less a fan than those who can! And while I would never question how much of a fan a season ticket holder/tailgater is, not everyone who bleeds purple and gold has the means or opportunity some folks do. And frankly, due to health issues and with most games on TV now, some of us who had been long time season ticket holders just got tired of fighting the crowds, the drunks, the loud obnoxious assholes and the traffic on top of a 6 hour round trip and the already exorbitant and ever increasing cost! If watching every game I can on TV while listening to the radio broadcast makes me less than an average fan then so be it!

Maybe. Last year the experience was awful. Concessions terrible.
The tailgate at old CEBA is. Joke. The kid setup near old Alex box was ok.

Traffic was not as bad for those who stayed the whole hgame as everyone had left. Generally traffic is awful for the last several years. Got worse after the contra flow genius stuff.

My purpose for defining the fan that way was to refer to those who come to the stadium to watch the games. The whole post began with the discussion about people not showing up for a top SEC game on national tv and why.

Having said that, yeah, I think fans such as yourself have been pushed away as well.

Now they are starting to see empty seats, projected revenue from parking lot fees falling short, and less concession revenue, and they are going to freak out.

The problem is that instead of listening to the fans, they will go get some stupid consultant to tell them more pie in the sky crap.

It’s a shame. I think the peak experience was the 90’s.

No one was going to the games for 8 of the 10 years in the 90’s. We played Tulane for homecoming in 94 and there were probably 30K in the stands at kickoff. frick those good times!

They could make parking free, play Neck and Tiger Rag, finally figure out contraflow, allow booze in the stadium, and you still wouldn't see a huge change in attendance. It's 2018 and our homes are almost as good as being there in person.

I can't disagree with your point.....except that I still believe "Bubba" (who used to have the majority of the season tickets) would go to the games, rain or shine, hot or cold, up or down by 21 and stay to the bitter end.

Season ticket holder for 28 years here. The parking/traffic issue is the biggest issue for me. After this weekend parking issues I’ve decided to drop the 4 tickets I have for customers because they won’t fight any of that. My personal tickets are in limbo- I haven’t decided yet. My 12 year old grandson loves to attend and that’s the only reason I may keep them.

"Season ticket holder for 28 years"
Bless you!!! I have almost as many as you! The more true LSU fans like you that are in the stadium, the longer people will be in the seats.

I had a shitty experience outside the stadium Saturday. The game part was great but everything else was terrible. Cops have no idea how to move traffic or get people parked. They have no idea how to clear traffic after a game either. My wife said she hasn’t no desire to go back. She isn’t alone I’m sure. Parking is getting farther and farther away and most lots they cram you in so you can’t even tailgate now.

Blocking off roads and making it a pain in the arse to get around campus.

Oo no, you can't go this way!!

This was on the first page of the old thread. I absolutely hated this shite with a passion when I lived in br. They would block a road off then 10 minutes later move and block a diff road. All it did was create a cluster frick.

I went to an LSU game for the first time since at least before the South end zone upgrade. While I think it looks awesome, I think that it was unnecessary. Can't fill seats. I hate the piped in music and would much rather hear the band.

We sat in section 302 row 41 and left after the game was over. The walk to the parking lot at the softball field wasn't bad. It was the traffic after that I had an issue with. We went left down river road and then took Lee to College and then hit i 10 east to Metairie. We left around 9:30 and didn't make it to Metairie till midnight.

We walked around campus a little and didn't think it was bad, but I don't typically tailgate on campus so don't really have a point of reference.

I won't be going again anytime soon. I went to games in the 80's as a kid and those seemed to be much more fun. Even back in the late 2000's I went and it was much more fun then it was this past weekend. The play on the field would make a difference but even without that the experience still stinks.

I went as my dad wanted to go and I graduated from SLU. Only time I have pulled against LSU in my life in football. Last game him and I went to at Tiger Stadium was back in 88 against Miami and that sucked. Got soaked and a flag pole hit him in the head.

I agree with the overall premise of your post. But you do realize that neither of these songs are unique to LSU?

Are you missing the point? There is a legit excuse, commercialization has priced out the average fan. Everyone on here always likes to stunt, but let’s face it... Football is getting completely outrageous to attend in all formats.

I no longer have season tickets for LSU. When I did, and before that, when I was a student in the 80's, we never left games; especially the students.

It's a different fan now.

60" 4K LED TVs are dirt cheap. You can stock your fridge with booze for the cost of getting a few drinks at the game. You can cook your jambalaya outside while drinking Bud Light and cranking Wayne Toups. When Bama goes up by 21 on you, you can walk your drunk arse to bed and pass out. They could make parking free, play Neck and Tiger Rag, finally figure out contraflow, allow booze in the stadium, and you still wouldn't see a huge change in attendance.
