It appears the "Death Valley" experience has gotten worse in last five years. (Long)

I posted this long post five years ago. Apologies to Chicken if this violates the rules.

LINK /

Ella Brennan said she wanted people to have a good experience while visiting her restaurants. It was more about the experience than just serving up good food. So are LSU fans getting a good experience even when the football is good?

Has it gotten better or worse?

This was an added note I posted on page 9 of the thread.

quote:

Having written that, keep in mind my post was not just about money. LSU football is a tradition, an experience. My observation was the experience is being reduced for the average fan. I don't mean the fan who watches on tv and never went to LSU while he wears an LSU jersey on the weekends. I mean the fan who has season tickets. He may have a tailgating group with friends. He goes to one or two road games a year when possible. He would go to the coaches show and would make a Bayou Bash or two.

Now look at it from his point of view. He goes to Walk On's. He has to sit in another room. Can't even see the coach. He goes to the Bash. He can bring some binoculars to see the coach. He and his friends tailgate on campus. Now they have to go pay fees and go through that rigamarole. Starting to see how the experience of LSU football is being reduced for him?

Now you go to the game. Traffic's a bitch. Atmosphere is more dead because well, not as many people are paying to park on campus. Goes to the game (I'll leave the search issue alone for now) and instead of listening to the band, its stupid piped in music. Instead of traditions that are unique to Tiger Stadium, Tiger Stadium now sounds more like every other stadium in the country. No more Neck. No Tiger Rag. The songs unique to LSU that make it special. Then there is the band itself. The product on the field has gone down. Just one more chip in the LSU block of tradition.

Thats for the average season ticket holding LSU fan. Now move down the ladder to the younger crowd. They might can afford tickets but they say screw it. Not worth all this hassle for something I can see on tv and drink if I want to.

What the administration has done is reduce the experience for LSU fans. Its not about who can afford what. Its more about what is the experience for the fans and how much are they going to tolerate. The empty seats are the reality. The question is what are the reasons for those empty seats and what is going to be done about it.

Its always been my hypothesis that one of the downfalls of boxing (one among several reasons) was when the sport started putting all the decent fights on pay per view. Raised alot more money but cut off access to kids. One generation of kids grew up never seeing major fights on cable or network tv as Ali used to fight and voila. No one watches boxing anymore while Ultimate Fighting is on the rise.

You expect some type of statement from the BOS, after a game 2 win when we are 2-0 and ranked #12 in the country. My god the idiocy on here is amazing.

I had my vehicle towed and had to pay $195 dollars for parking in neutral grounds between spots this weekend. Spare me the park legally bs. I’ve parked similarly for years. I’ve seen ppl park similarly for years. This is a money grab by the university to make sure ppl are paying to park. I can’t bring myself to miss the big games but see it completely worthless to show up for the southeasterns of the world. Screw Alleva and all of this parking bs!

That's "Former" die-hard LSU/GBFTL Alum Semjase' too, currently.

Not enough Bang for the Buck now.

LSUAD driven "Atmospheric Declination" in Tiger Stadium (PIM) and football mediocrity are the main reasons for me.

Traffic and parking are not considerations. There's plenty of parking for free behind the Law School so that's not a problem. Traffic hassles are eliminated if you just get there early enough before the game and tailgate after the game while listening to post-game show on radio until traffic has cleared.

This did it for me. What was the point of being at the game when I can change commercials at home ? The days of bands playing their fight songs and the tradition of college football died. Add to that the nightmare traffic situation and commercial tailgate, well TV at home is a better choice w/o a headache.

It's the same everywhere you go it's not just LSU....Fans pack the stadiums for the big games but the cupcake games not so much....some people just don't go others give their tickets to friends who only go when they can get free tickets...learn to live with this it's not going to change

Excuses...there is no legit reason the stands look empty by the third quarter. Tiger fans used to be loyal and smart. Where'd that go?

Paying for parking has sent so many lifetime tailgaters home its fricking sickening.

It will be a great day for LSU when Alleva moves on

I think it means he’s toast when his contract runs out next summer. It’ll take a miracle run in football or maybe basketball to save him.

It’s not the paying that’s a problem. Its that they made the campus 90% reserved spots. If you want to buy tickets online and go up and tailgate you have to do so 2 miles from the stadium. The best part is they’ve made campus a fricking morgue now so there is plenty of open spaces that are completely unused. Take the Block Party location. Instead of throwing up some picnic tables and trash cans for Joe fan and his family to use, they lease the land to a 3rd party, put a fence up and tell people you can tailgate there for a minimum of $600. The rep told us Saturday that they actually set up empty tents so that they can handle walk up tailgaters. Who the frick is doing that shite? There were a few tents up but for the most part the entire area was a ghost town.

You actually think Alleva leaving will make a difference, there is nothing he can do to get people back in that stadium.

You should have seen the ghost town that was the Parade Grounds. They roped it off for “sanctioned events” (whatever that means) and there were maybe 150 people inside the ropes.

It’s a shame. I think the peak experience was the 90’s. Those games, while not the best football, had the best atmosphere.
