With this supreme logic John Wooden would have never made it either.

He's actually got one of the best, if not the best winning percentage, as head coach of the LSU basketball program.

Blaming the season on one factor (Johnny Jones) is not the reason the team is where it's currently at. Plus the season isn't even over with. Kinda premature to have these talks until after the SEC tournament.

Not too many coaches can win with a 2-3 man bench. Josh Grey and Darcy Malone aren't the answers. The team finished where it was PREDICTED preseason. 4th in the SEC.

the Florida Gulf Coast coach would come. If we don't get him this year a big program will.

Duke would be #1 with a 3 man bench. Deep benches/depth is the most overused/over evaluated term ever. It really doesn't do anything in college after your 2nd-3rd guy.

Dukes coach >>> 99% coaches in college basketball.

Without Hornsby, (Patterson now starter) LSU's #1 & #2 man off the bench is Gray and Malone. Now compare that to the rest of the SEC.

It's all relative. He did not take over a great situation but it was significantly better than any other basketball coaches in LSU history save Trent and even his was front-loaded with seniors leaving him nothing when they were gone. I don't give him points for that.

IMHO he's underachieved with what he's had 3 of the 4 seasons he's been here.

You could debate last year I suppose...but it ended with a loss to Auburn in the first round of the SEC tournament and blowing a 16 pt. lead to another coach who IMHO has the same issues as CJJ in Gottfried and NC State and if you go back in watch, they were doing their darndest to not win...and we still couldn't hang on.

That NC State also got to a Sweet 16 so I give them the benefit of the doubt. No question LSU should have won that game but Jones has kept LSU competitve. LSU isn't UK or Florida (Donovan coached team) so I think he's kept the program right on par to where it should be. Fans expectations need to lower just a bit.

Did we under play our own expectations?

Or did we overplay our physical limitations?

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FLOP !!!!!

Expecting to make the NCAA tournament was an unrealistic expectation this year?? C'mon man...

So, if we are to lower our expectations, we need to shoot for the NCAA Tournament 1 out of every 6-7 years. If that's what the program is going to strive to be, then LSU basketball will continue to be a sub-par program.

C'mon t'z you watched that game, specifically the last 10 minutes where we couldn't make a field goal or a free throw and still almost won because N.C. State could hardly make a shot either. Ralston Turner must have missed 5-6 wide open threes down the stretch.

I'm good with expectations going up, it's the only way we are going to get better. because getting talent is one step, but what's the use if you underachieve with it. You expect less, you get less that's usually what happens. So no problem with expectations and I actually think most were reasonable. Now the Final Four stuff....of course not. Making the tournament and winning a game or two....very reasonable and I think that was where most had their expectations.

And the talent, at least on paper, is taking a step backward next year, so you want lower expectations....here they come..and results will probably mirror those.

I agree. How can someone be optimistic when he couldn't win with the best player in basketball?

But CJJ is a great recruiter. Why is the bench so short?

He certainly swung and missed on big men it would seem. I think Epps has potential, but probably not as a post player. Got a lot of bigs on scholly who looks like they maybe are not good enough to play at this level even in tightly defined roles. I would love one of them to improve, develop and prove me wrong there.

And next year, don't look to good on paper the 5 coming in. Only one in the Top 100 in Mays who is closer to 100 than 1, and the 21st ranked point guard.

The fact that he hasn't managed to get a true PG on this team to help facilitate a team with a future NBA All Star is baffling to me.

Thank you people say Johnny is such a good recruiter but they will blame depth as the reason for the teams short comings , if Johnny is such a great recruiter someone please explain to me why is Darcy,Elbert and Bridgewater on the team.that my people is why lsu has no post depth

This is not true at all. I agree he should be fired, but he has left LSU Mens Basketball in MUCH better condition than the way he found it. I liken him to Dinardo. Good recruiter, got momentum back, not a good X and O coach, and fell on their face with very good talent in their last year(s).

I agree. Jones is not going to ever bring LSU to a championship level. (and if that isn't the goal for ANY power conf. basketball team, then why play?) However, he has moved the program forward from the point where he took it over. He deserves credit for that.

But now is the time to make a move before all of his work could be undone. LSU still has talent on the roster with eligibility next season: Blakeney, Quarterman, Victor, Sampson. That could be a solid first 4. Epps and Patterson have some ability as well. However, if Jones returns, I think you definitely lose Quarterman and the next year's recruiting class looks to be (on paper) one of the weakest ones he's had at LSU. The perception of LSU basketball is going to be down after this season, and there is nothing that really gives anyone hope that it will significantly improve next season.

Why wait? Jones is the 3rd lowest paid SEC coach (soon to be 2nd). This isn't a Miles situation with a relatively huge buyout. Bring in a new guy who can hopefully (a) recruit some of the current players to return (Simmons exuded, of course) (b) compete in the SEC next season and (c) establish a foundation for what looks to be a very good 2017 and 2018 crop of Louisiana players.

Keeping him does nothing more than prolong the inevitable and risks setting the program back once more for little to no immediate benefit.

Yes, Alleva's basketball hires have definitely been terrible.
