o what did Orgeron do wrong in the recruitment of Surtain? Tell us what he could have possibly done to get a different result.

Suck less. Ed Orgeron STILL has a career losing record as a head coach, and he just promoted a man to be the OC who was last an OC full time before Patrick was born.

But you're right...I'm sure there needed to be bigger reasons than that.

Its a no confidence vote in Ed Orgeron, pure and simple. The result should not surprise anyone and next year's class will have even more data points from which to make their decision when that time rolls around.
I have no clairvoyance talents but I have some idea how this will turn out.

It was Surtains choice to go to Alabama. I don’t agree with his timing of telling LSU late the nite before signing day, very unprofessional of him. LSU did all they could and I can’t fault Orgeron for telling other kids he didn’t have a scholarship for them, rather than lying about it and stringing them along. That sounds like a move Bama makes, distasteful. I just wonder what he’s gonna do when Saban leaves for Indianapolis Colts

Another convenient excuse for 0. Weird how nothing is ever his fault.

How is this O's fault? My God, the kid cried when he chose against us...he said LSU was his dream and had the entire staff their the day before. Said LSzu led the whole way.

WTF is wrong with idiots like you

I think Sustain is a punk for flopping, especially the way he did...and d ont forget daddy got an interview for a position there..

Another example of a dad leaching off of his sons talents...because dad is old and unwanted

And there have been kids that were pressured by family to come to LSU that didn't want to be here.

It happens at every school.

The kid picked a school dedicated to winning.

It's quite simple he wanted LSU over Bama but didn't want Oeaux ahead of Saban. Who would. He made a business decision.

Saban only signed 20 kids

But he had 25 offers on the table

21) Bobby Brown
22) Nick Petit-Frere
23) Quay Walker
24) Justyn Ross
25) Jacob Copeland

What happens if Surtain calls Saban at 11 pm, and Nick already has 25 offers out? Ready to be faxed in at 8AM the next morning?

It was a done deal, way before that

Has the father always resented that LSU did not recruit him? Was he offered a position at Alabama which will materialize in the next few months?

Would it be possible to hire his dad? I know you can't hire the coach of a recruit, I assume family members would be included in this.

Saban has the NFL connections and as such uses them to his advantage. he has a few kids of former pro players on his teams....Ingram comes to mind.....Irv Smith , Jr now Surtain.

He could have had a contingency plan in place and not had all of his eggs in the basket of a kid who had been "committed" for 2+ years, yet didn't sign early. He went all in on Cam Akers last year, lost, and now the RB depth is pitiful. He went all in on Surtain this year, lost, and now the CB depth is pitiful. It's not even JUST losing Surtain, it's structuring his recruitment plan where he was even in a position to just sign ZERO CBs.

Yesterday I captioned a similar quote that hits the mark without a lot of extraneous hyperbole...this is another one and your example of Akers last year is a perfect.

We would have had Etienne if we had offered him as a junior, but knuckle draggers could not see the potential. Don't know who evaluates RB's, but my goodness...yes, I'm biased because ET broke the record in Jennings (hometown) that stood for 54 years.

Not an expert and rarely make a recruit prediction unless it is just flat obvious to me...three that come to mind are Anthony McFarland, Jarvis Landry and Travis Etienne. Neither of the first two were expected to be world beaters and look how they turned out...Etienne will become a special back that LSU would have, with a little effort, had in the basket.

The recruiting staff should've been better prepared for this possibility, rather than trusting the word of an 18 year old.

Serious question: How do you do this? If you can't believe what 18 year old's say it seems you would be in a perennial revolving door scenario.

He's a young kid. He can do what he wants. I can't blame him.

you can not hire them in a “non-coaching role”, but they are allowed to be hired as on field staff.

basically you can’t throw a random analyst job at anyone associated with a potential recruit.

that’s why Kevin Faulk had the red tape surrounding him. His position is not an on field spot. So we had to prove that we weren’t doing it just to land Carencro kids.

I don't disagree. I am just not convinced he did what he wanted.
